The bank of the Con River through Tan An village, Thuong Duc commune is increasingly eroded, causing insecurity for people living along the river.

According to Mr. Nguyen Quoc Than, the landslide on the Con River bank has been happening since the flood season of 2024. In just a short time, the river bank has eroded about 10m inland, stretching nearly 200m, directly affecting nearly 20 households living along the river.

In addition, due to the impact of heavy rains in mid-June, an unusual flood occurred on the Con River, causing the riverbank section through Tan An village to continue to erode. And after this unusual flood, on the morning of June 14, the authorities of Thuong Duc commune (formerly Dai Lanh commune, Dai Loc district, Quang Nam province) discovered that the second span of the old Ha Tan bridge had completely collapsed, and the road surface at the eastern bridge abutment was completely peeled off. At that time, the People's Committee of Dai Lanh commune erected barriers and blocked both ends of the old Ha Tan bridge; informed the people to completely stop traffic through the old Ha Tan bridge, and switch all traffic to the new Ha Tan bridge.

Having lived on the banks of the Con River for decades, Mr. Pham Minh Loc (residing in Group 6, Tan An Village, Thuong Duc Commune) cannot help but feel worried and uneasy because the riverbank erosion has been happening rapidly in recent days, threatening the homes of many households. "In the past, my family planted rows of fig trees, acacia trees, and bamboo along the riverbank to hold the soil, but since the flood in 2024, these rows of trees have been washed away, and the eroded riverbank has eaten into the edge of the fence of my house's porch. My family is very worried, especially when this year's flood season is approaching and is forecast to be very unpredictable. Therefore, we hope that authorities at all levels will pay attention to building embankments to prevent erosion of the river section through our village so that people can settle down,” Mr. Loc expressed.

Sharing the same anxiety as Mr. Loc's family, Mr. Pham Van Man (residing in Group 6, Tan An Village, Thuong Duc Commune) said that the erosion of the banks of the Con River has been happening very quickly recently, making people feel insecure. Mr. Man confided: "The bamboo rows that people planted along the river to protect the soil have now been washed away by the erosion into the riverbed. The erosion of the banks of the Con River is becoming more and more serious, posing a risk to people's lives and property."

Speaking to CAND Newspaper reporters, Mr. Phan Trung Phi, Chairman of Thuong Duc Commune People's Committee, said that after the 2024 flood, upon receiving information about the landslide on the Con River bank through Tan An village, the old Dai Lanh Commune government directed the specialized department to conduct a field inspection at the landslide site. In the immediate future, the local government has added a plan to evacuate household at risk of being affected in the aforementioned landslide area to a safe location in case of storms, floods or heavy rains to ensure the safety of people's lives.

In the long term, after stable operation and perfecting the organizational structure according to the 2-level local government model, the People's Committee of Thuong Duc commune will re-survey the landslide situation of the Con River bank through Tan An village, from which it will recommend that the functional departments of Da Nang city pay attention to investing early in anti-erosion embankments in this area to protect the safety of people's lives and property.
