There are many causes of nausea including pregnancy, food poisoning, stress and gastrointestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Certain foods can help reduce nausea and speed recovery, according to Eating Well .

Ginger

Ginger has been scientifically proven to help relieve nausea. "Studies have shown that ginger speeds up gastric emptying and promotes contractions, both of which can help fight nausea," says Pam Hartnett, a registered dietitian in the US.

Ginger has been scientifically proven to help relieve symptoms of nausea.

Ginger is also used as a nausea reliever for people with cancer, especially those undergoing chemotherapy.

Pam Hartnett shares that you can add ginger to your dishes, drink ginger tea or eat ginger candy to reduce nausea.

Apple

A 2021 study in BMJ Open on pregnant women found that apples were one of the most well-tolerated foods for morning sickness. Study participants were also given watermelon, cookies, and bread, but they reported that apples were easy to eat and did not cause nausea.

A study published in the Journal of Research in Medical Science in 2021 found that apple syrup may help reduce nausea in people undergoing cancer treatment. Researchers believe that the antioxidants in apples help reduce the body's gag reflex. Additionally, health care providers recommend applesauce after a bout of gastritis.

Protein rich foods

Protein is actually a nutrient that can help prevent nausea. A 2023 study in the journal Nutrients found a link between eating more protein and reducing nausea in pregnant women.

Liquid protein is beneficial in reducing nausea, according to Hartnett.

Electrolyte drink

Vomiting can lead to dehydration, so electrolyte drinks will help your body rehydrate and recover faster.

While there's no specific research showing that drinking electrolyte drinks helps with nausea, they can certainly help your body feel better after vomiting.
