Favorable market

This content was shared by Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen - General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, at the 7th International Exhibition and Conference on Vegetable and Fruit Production and Processing Technology in Vietnam held on January 8 in Ho Chi Minh City.

According to Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, Vietnam is becoming one of the major centers for production and export of vegetables and fruits in the region. By 2024, fruit and vegetable export of our country reached more than 7.2 billion USD, an increase of 27% compared to 2023.

Among export items, durian dominated, bringing in 3.2 billion USD, equivalent to 45% of total fruit and vegetable export turnover. Fresh bananas also recorded great progress, reaching 380 million USD in revenue, up 30%, surpassing strong competitors such as the Philippines and Ecuador in the Chinese market. This is the result of the continuous efforts of Vietnamese farmers and businesses in improving product quality, expanding markets and meeting strict international standards.

Fruit and vegetable exports to reach impressive turnover in 2024

Forecasting the export market in 2025, Mr. Nguyen said that many positive signals from the international market are opening up great opportunities for the fruit and vegetable industry in 2025. However, to achieve the export target of 8 billion USD, this industry needs to focus on green production and sustainable development.

"Demand for high-quality agricultural products that meet food safety standards, green standards, and circular economy is increasing, especially in large markets," Mr. Nguyen emphasized.

Shift to green, sustainable production

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Tung, Chairman of the Board of Directors and General Director of Vina T&T Group , said that meeting new standards is a mandatory requirement to agricultural products Vietnam continues to assert its position.

"We not only need to meet food quality and safety standards, but also pay attention to factors such as renewable energy, emission reduction and transparent traceability. That is the key to ensuring stability and sustainable development in exports," Mr. Tung shared.

According to Mr. Tung, in the context of an increasingly demanding international market, the connection between farmers and businesses plays an important role. Cooperatives and cooperatives are increasingly asserting their role as a bridge, helping to enhance the position of farmers in the value chain, while ensuring the sustainability of agricultural products. This close cooperation not only improves the quality of agricultural products but also contributes to affirming the Vietnamese brand on the global export map.

To support businesses and farmers in updating new trends in fruit and vegetable production and export, the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association in collaboration with Minh Vi Advertising and Exhibition Services Company organizes the HortEx Vietnam 2025 International Exhibition and Conference.

The program will take place from March 12 to 14, 2025 at the Saigon Exhibition and Convention Center (SECC), Ho Chi Minh City. The event is expected to gather more than 400 exhibitors from 35 countries and territories, along with more than 15,000 trade visitors.
