Handling Dengue Fever Outbreak in Phong Nha

This morning, July 11, the Bo Trach Regional Medical Center began spraying chemicals to kill mosquitoes to treat the dengue fever outbreak in Cu Lac 1 village, Phong Nha commune, Quang Tri province.

According to the plan, the unit will spray chemicals to kill mosquitoes for 3 days (from July 11 to 13) in Cu Lac 1 village (about 512 households, 1,867 people) and schools in the village area. Previously, on July 9 and 10, Bo Trach Regional Health Center also coordinated with the Commune People's Committee and Phong Nha Commune Health Station to mobilize people to organize environmental sanitation and kill mosquito larvae.

According to Dr. Do Xuan Tinh, Head of the Department of Disease Control - Addiction Treatment Consulting (Bo Trach Regional Health Center), through investigation and monitoring of the epidemic situation, on July 8, Phong Nha commune recorded 7 cases of dengue fever/suspected dengue fever in Cu Lac 1 village.

The cases are being treated at Son Trach Regional General Clinic. Of these, 5/7 cases have had positive Ns1 rapid test results, the remaining cases have typical clinical symptoms of the disease. Investigation of the patients' living areas recorded high insect indexes, exceeding the warning threshold.

“With the goal of reducing the incidence rate and proactively controlling major epidemics, in parallel with outbreak handling activities, the unit also promotes propaganda to raise awareness and consciousness of dengue fever prevention for local people,” added Dr. Do Xuan Tinh.
