According to the Quang Ninh Provincial Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, the province will establish and develop 23 industrial parks (IPs) with a total area of over 18,842 hectares. To date, 8 IPs have attracted secondary investors, including: Cai Lan, Dong Mai, Viet Hung, Song Khoai, Texhong Hai Ha, Hai Yen, Nam Tien Phong and Bac Tien Phong.
Over the past years, Quang Ninh has implemented many policies and solutions for socio -economic development, in which the formation of economic zones, industrial parks, industrial clusters and attracting many production and service projects have become the driving force for growth. However, the province has always clearly identified that industrial development must be associated with environmental protection. This orientation has helped Quang Ninh not only maintain a high economic growth rate but also ensure sustainable environmental development, while requiring businesses to strictly comply with regulations on waste treatment and environmental monitoring.
Song Khoai Industrial Park invested by Amata Group is becoming a bright spot in attracting investment associated with environmental protection in Quang Ninh. Up to now, the Industrial Park has attracted 21 secondary investment projects, of which 3 factories have come into operation. The infrastructure of the Industrial Park has been invested synchronously and modernly, with special attention paid to environmental protection. Right in the Industrial Park, two water treatment stations have been built and operated, including: a station providing clean water meeting standards for manufacturing enterprises and a centralized wastewater treatment station with modern technology, ensuring that all wastewater is treated to meet technical standards before being discharged into the environment.
Mr. Takeshi Omika, Deputy General Director of Amata Ha Long Urban Joint Stock Company, shared: “First of all, we clearly identify that economic development must go hand in hand with environmental protection. Song Khoai Industrial Park is planned according to the ecological industrial park model. According to the orientation of Amata Group, our goal is to develop a low-carbon industrial park with specific solutions such as using renewable energy, reducing dependence on fossil fuels and increasing the rate of water reuse. Therefore, we prioritize attracting high-tech, low-emission and resource-efficient investors.”
According to Mr. Takeshi Omika, Amata has invested in a modern centralized wastewater treatment system, installed a 24/7 automatic environmental monitoring system and made data public to ensure transparency. The company also closely coordinates with departments, branches and local authorities in inspection and examination, as well as supporting secondary investors to strictly comply with environmental regulations. "Our ultimate goal is to build a modern, sustainable industrial park that is in harmony with the environment and the local community," Mr. Takeshi Omika emphasized.
In fact, up to now, all 8/8 industrial parks that have come into operation have invested in building centralized wastewater treatment plants, ensuring the collection and treatment of all wastewater generated from secondary projects. This entire system is installed with automatic monitoring, continuously transmitting data to the Department of Agriculture and Environment in accordance with regulations. Projects attracting investment into the industrial parks all comply with licensed industries and fully carry out environmental procedures before implementation.
During operation, secondary enterprises have built systems to collect and treat wastewater and exhaust gas or connected to centralized treatment stations for treatment according to regulations; at the same time, arranged equipment to collect and store ordinary industrial waste and hazardous waste and signed contracts with competent units for treatment according to legal procedures.
With the strategy of developing production in parallel with environmental protection, in recent years, the Coal industry has focused on many solutions to improve the capacity of mine wastewater treatment, prevent environmental incidents, improve landscapes, restore the environment, and aim to green the production mines.
At Mao Khe Coal Company, environmental protection is given special attention. Over the years, the company has invested hundreds of billions of VND in mine wastewater treatment, landscape improvement, and post-mining environmental restoration. The settling pond system and wastewater treatment plant are operated continuously, ensuring that wastewater meets standards before being discharged into the environment. At the same time, the company also actively plants trees to cover the waste dump, minimizing dust and noise.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dung, Head of Investment - Environment Department, Mao Khe Coal Company, said: To protect the mine environment, the company focuses on thoroughly treating wastewater, planting trees to restore waste dumps, and building a green - clean - beautiful campus in the factory to create a friendly and sustainable working space. In addition, the company regularly invests in upgrading equipment, applying advanced technology, installing misting systems to suppress dust and reduce emissions, and strengthening 24/7 environmental monitoring, thereby affirming its determination to develop production while protecting the environment.
Fully aware of the responsibility and role of environmental protection, in recent years, TKV has spent about 1,000 billion VND/year on this field. The focus is on tasks such as greening mine waste dumps, investing in coal conveyor systems to replace transportation by cars, and effectively operating mine wastewater treatment plants and hazardous waste treatment plants.
Along with that, the Group directs units to maintain good environmental protection work, focusing on handling dust, noise, and industrial waste; at the same time, maximizing the value chain towards circular economy towards sustainable development. In addition, TKV also synchronously deploys solutions on capital sources, human resources organization, promotes scientific research and strengthens international cooperation in the field of environment, affirming the determination to develop harmoniously between production and responsibility for environmental protection.
It can be seen that Quang Ninh is on the right track when it is determined to change its development model from “brown” to “green”. From typical models such as Song Khoai Industrial Park to the efforts of the Coal industry, it shows the province’s determination to both develop the economy and protect the environment sustainably.
