(Baothanhhoa.vn) - Regarding the impact of storm No. 5, sea dikes with a dike crest elevation < +4.0m are at high risk of being overtopped by storm surge.

According to a report by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the sea dyke and river dyke system in provinces and cities from Ninh Binh to Hue has 43 key vulnerable locations and 4 projects under construction.

Sea dikes from Thanh Hoa to Ha Tinh are designed to withstand storms with winds of level 9-10 and an average tide level of 5%. Regarding the impact of storm No. 5, sea dikes with a top elevation of < +4.0m are at high risk of being overtopped by storm surge.

Accordingly, in Thanh Hoa province, the sea dykes: Hoang Truong, Quang Nham, Hai Binh, Ninh Chau are at high risk of being unsafe when storm No. 5 with level 13-14 strength, gusting to level 17 (exceeding design level) makes landfall.

The sea dike of Hai Binh commune (formerly Tinh Gia district) is low, overflowed in 2017, and has not been reinforced or upgraded.

Many sea dykes in the area where storm No. 5 is making landfall are at risk of being overtopped.
