Patient had to undergo surgery because of wrong X-ray results: Request to clarify responsibility

On April 22, regarding the incident of "Patient had to undergo surgery because the hospital gave wrong X-ray results" that occurred in Lam Dong, the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management, Ministry of Health requested Lam Dong Department of Health, Lam Dong General Hospital to draw profound lessons, review and clarify the responsibilities of related individuals and groups and propose forms of handling.

The Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management also requested the Director of Lam Dong Department of Health to contact and organize a meeting with the family, apologize and consider the wishes of the patient and family to resolve the matter in a reasonable and fair manner. At the same time, the Lam Dong Department of Health was requested to promptly report to the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management before 5:00 p.m. on February 24 to report to the leaders of the Ministry of Health and publicize the results in the media.

Lam Dong Provincial General Hospital

Previously, on February 20, Mr. NHH went to Lam Dong General Hospital for examination as advised by a doctor in Lam Ha district, Lam Dong province. Here, the doctors asked the patient to have an X-ray. After receiving the results, the doctors informed that there was a tube-shaped string in Mr. H's abdomen and advised him to do laparoscopic surgery to remove the string. When receiving the X-ray results, Mr. H was very surprised and said that he had had kidney surgery before and had annual check-ups, so a tube-shaped string could not have appeared in his body. However, after receiving the doctor's advice, Mr. H and his wife agreed to have laparoscopic surgery to remove the foreign object, a plastic tube, from his abdomen.

Surprisingly, during the surgery, it was discovered that there was no tube in Mr. H's abdomen, so the doctor took Mr. H. for another X-ray and discovered that the imaging department had mistakenly given Mr. H. the results of another patient. Before this incident, the hospital reported to the Lam Dong Department of Health and held a review meeting, drawing lessons from the surgical team and contacted the patient's family to apologize.
