The Southern Postal Service was established on June 2, 1962 under the Decision of the Central Office for Southern Vietnam. The mission of the sector is to manage the corridor system; organize the pick-up and drop-off of passengers; receive, issue and transport postal items; build wharves and warehouses to receive and transport military goods and other strategic goods from the large rear areas by road and sea; coordinate with sectors and localities to protect corridors, stations and pick-up and drop-off passengers.
The apparatus of the Southern Postal Delivery Board includes specialized sub-committees such as: Postal Sub-committee, Transport Sub-committee, Organization and Personnel Sub-committee, and Postal Delivery Board Office.
Southern Postal Service also has a cultural training school, an infirmary to take care of the health of officers and soldiers, and a radio station to serve communications.

With a system of corridors and hub stations, the Southern Postal Transport Department operates the blood vessels, circulating smoothly from the Central Bureau to localities, regions, and provinces throughout the South and connecting with the Central Hanoi .

Over the past 13 years (1962-1975), the Central Postal Department of the Southern Region organized the reception and transportation of thousands of tons of weapons, equipment, and goods for the battlefield, including gold and foreign currencies of all kinds; transported millions of cadres and soldiers, including many leaders of the Central Department, regions, provinces, and international guests to travel safely.

In recognition of their outstanding achievements in the resistance war against the US, in 2013, the President conferred the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces on the Central Postal Department of the Southern Region. Continuing the tradition
On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Postal sector's tradition day, the 62nd anniversary of the Science and Technology sector's tradition day and major national holidays, the Ministry of Science and Technology has just organized a working delegation with more than 100 officials, civil servants and former leaders of the Postal, Telecommunications, and Science and Technology sectors to return to the Southern Central Bureau Base (Tan Lap commune, Tay Ninh province).

Returning to the old battlefield, having the opportunity to admire the images and artifacts displayed in the Traditional House of the Postal Service Base Area and the Central Communications Department of the Southern Office, Ms. Pham Thi Hue (77 years old), a former liaison soldier during the anti-American resistance war, could not hide her emotions. So many memories of her time as a postal delivery man, arduous yet heroic, came flooding back.
Mrs. Hue said that during the resistance war, the postal work was very hard. Every day, she and her comrades had to carry boxes containing documents, papers, and items into the base.
“These goods were all packed in boxes. We carried them and walked through the forest. Some units were completely destroyed by enemy bombs,” Ms. Hue sadly recalled.

Ms. Hue hopes that the Party and State will pay more attention to, care for, and preserve more traditional houses like this, to attract tourists and give the younger generation the opportunity to study and learn about the achievements of their fathers' arduous struggles.
Former courier soldiers recall memories of a time of arduous but heroic postal work.
On this occasion, dozens of students from Ho Chi Minh City also followed the delegation to "R". Huynh Thi Thuy Hang, a student majoring in Multimedia Technology at the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications Technology, confided: "Through this trip, I learned more about the great contributions of our ancestors, so that we can have a good life like today. From then on, I will try to study hard to continue the tradition and join hands to develop the country".
Tran Thi Lan Huong, a student in the same major and school as Hang, also shared: "I feel very happy and proud to understand more about the contributions of our ancestors and realize that I need to study harder to contribute to building the country."
