According to the December Travel Trends report of the Australian Tourism Association (ATIA), in October alone, 1.66 million Australians traveled overseas, up 12.1% over the same period last year.

According to statistics from Australian authorities, Japan is the country that recorded the most impressive growth from the Australian market, welcoming 567,330 visitors from this market by the end of October - an increase of 73.8% over the same period last year.

Vietnam increased by 35.4% (423,630), and Indonesia increased by 26% (1,644,010).

According to the General Statistics Office, by the end of November, Vietnam is estimated to have welcomed more than 440,000 Australian visitors, far exceeding the 390,000 arrivals in 2019 - the peak period of tourism before COVID-19. This success is largely due to the opening of a series of direct flights connecting Vietnam with Australia and programs to promote Vietnamese tourism in the land of kangaroos.

These figures show a shift in Australian visitor preferences. Leisure tourism is driving this growth, with 63.6% of Australian visitors travelling for leisure.

This new trend has forced New Zealand, a traditional destination for Australian tourists, to compete fiercely to maintain its source market.

In October alone, the country welcomed more than 240,000 international visitors, of which 46% were Australian. The number of visitors from Australia continued to grow strongly at 107,599, maintaining above 100,000 for the fourth consecutive month.
