Vietnam is strongly committed to strengthening aviation security and safety, placing this work within the overall national security system, according to Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang.
On September 19, at the global conference on aviation safety and operations organized by the Ministry of Transport and the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Hanoi, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Luu Quang affirmed that Vietnam identifies ensuring aviation safety and security as a particularly important task, which must be carried out regularly, keeping up with the complex and rapid developments of the world situation.
The Government has focused on perfecting institutions, issuing many mechanisms and policies, creating a legal corridor and a favorable business environment for the safe and healthy development of the aviation industry. The Government has also invested resources and improved management capacity so that the safety monitoring system can meet the increasing demands of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Minister of Transport Nguyen Van Thang also shared that the Ministry of Transport is reviewing and evaluating the implementation of the Civil Aviation Law to promptly amend and supplement it to meet the requirements of practical development. In particular, safety culture is a key content that the industry focuses on throughout the system and to each employee.
Over the past 15 years, the growth of the aviation industry has been closely linked to Vietnam's GDP growth rate, meaning that a 1% increase in GDP will result in a 1.5-2% increase in aviation. From 2009 to 2019, the Vietnamese aviation market grew by over 17% in passengers and nearly 14% in cargo.
The industry has achieved ICAO certification, certified level 1 aviation safety supervision capacity - the highest level of the US Federal Aviation Administration.
Minister Thang also pointed out that Vietnamese aviation is facing four major pressures: infrastructure, human resources, environment and risk management. "These are challenges that must be overcome to develop sustainably, bring people the safest and most convenient services, as well as realize the goal of Vietnam becoming a regional and international aviation hub," said Mr. Thang.
At the conference, Vietnam Airlines and IATA signed the Charter on safety culture.
