On August 27, the Management Board of the national historical and cultural relic Van Thanh Mieu held the 158th death anniversary of Phan Thanh Gian and coordinated with the Association for Promotion of Education to award scholarships to excellent students with the Phan family name in the province.

Phan Thanh Gian was born in Bao Thanh village, Bao Tri commune, Bao An district, Hoang Tri prefecture, Vinh Long province. He passed the Royal examination in Hue capital and became the third class doctor in Binh Tuat year (1826) at the age of 30 and was the first doctor in Cochinchina. He held many important positions in the Nguyen Dynasty, was famous for his integrity and virtue, and made many great contributions to the nation's history in the fields of literature, history, etc.
Phan Thanh Gian was one of the two initiators of the construction of the Temple of Literature (Phuoc Hau Ward). The death anniversary of the late master is held annually on the 5th day of the 7th lunar month here, attracting hundreds of groups of visitors to visit and learn about the historical and cultural values and merits of the master to propagate for future generations to learn and follow.

On this occasion, the Phan Family Council of Ho Chi Minh City supported the award of scholarships to 53 students in the province who have achieved excellent academic results. Each scholarship is worth 2 million VND to encourage them to continue to strive to study.
