including more than 2,880 hectares of protective forests, special-use forests and more than 29,200 hectares of production forests . To implement this plan, localities in the province have closely followed the plan of the Provincial People's Committee to direct communes, units, and forestry households to prepare production sites as well as forestry seedlings. By the end of May 2025, the whole province had planted more than 22,700 hectares of forest, equal to 86.4% of the annual plan.
Quang Ninh has a large forest area with more than 434,000 hectares of forest and forestry land, with a forest coverage rate of nearly 55%. However, after Typhoon Yagi made direct landfall, the forestry sector suffered severe damage, causing the province's forest coverage rate to decrease by 15%. Currently, the density of forest planting with native species and large trees ranges from 500-1,100 trees/ha. With the target of nearly 32,000 hectares of concentrated forest planting by 2025, the whole province needs about 35 million forestry seedlings of all kinds.
There are currently 144 nurseries in the province with a total capacity to produce about 106.7 million seedlings of forestry trees per year, including acacia, cinnamon, pine and indigenous tree varieties. According to the leader of the Quang Ninh Center for Agricultural and Forestry Science and Production, this year, the plan to order seedlings is expected to increase by about 50%. Therefore, since the beginning of the year, the Center has focused all resources on making seedlings from the laboratory until they are brought to the nursery. It is expected that in 2025, the unit will produce 2.5-3 million tissue-cultured seedlings from the laboratory, of which about 1.5 million will be brought to the garden; the remaining seedlings will be exported to nurseries.
Thanks to early preparation, the source of seedlings basically met the forest planting needs of organizations and individuals in the province. By the end of May, it is estimated that the whole province had planted over 22,700 hectares of forest, an increase of 296.3% over the same period and equal to 86.4% of the plan. With the support of authorities at all levels and the agricultural sector, people and businesses have also proactively overcome difficulties to reproduce. Ms. Vi Thi Hien, Hamlet 1, Cong Hoa Commune, Cam Pha City, shared: In the past few days, taking advantage of a few scattered rains, the forest land had enough moisture, my family mobilized the family's human resources and hired more workers to focus on planting 3.9 hectares of forest in the second quarter. Before that, my family had completed the field preparation since the beginning of May.
In Ba Che district, the total area of concentrated forestation in 2025 is assigned to 5,000 hectares, of which large timber forests are 100 hectares, native trees are 300 hectares, forests for raw wood are 4,600 hectares, medicinal plants are about 50 hectares... In the first quarter alone, The district's concentrated forestation has reached more than 4,000 hectares, 80% of the plan, 2.8 times higher than the same period. According to Mr. Chieu Van Quynh, Deputy Director of Ba Che Forestry Company Limited, to replant the entire 3,500 hectares of forest damaged after Typhoon Yagi , the company needs about 14 million seedlings. The company can produce about 8 million seedlings itself, the rest the company buys from outside sources. In 2025, the company plans to replant 400 hectares of forest.
After the first months of the year with little rain, from May until now, the province has started to have a lot of rain. This is a very favorable time for forestry units and households to plant forests. Therefore, to ensure the progress and quality of forest planting, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development requires the Forestry Department to strictly manage the source of forestry seedlings in the whole province. Increase the rate of using tissue culture seedlings, cuttings, native forest trees, and high-quality and productive tree varieties for large-scale production forest planting and large timber forest planting, to ensure the need for forest planting this year and the following years.
Mr. Vu Duy Van, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: To create a site for afforestation, currently, the functional departments of the Department are continuing to coordinate with units and localities to review records, on that basis submitting to competent authorities for forest liquidation decisions. Along with that, continue to mobilize people and forestry organizations to inspect and collect all fallen forest trees. This is an important solution to complete the afforestation target assigned by the province in 2025 of over 32,000 hectares.
The province also noted a number of tasks for sustainable forestry development in 2025, such as: It is necessary to balance the planting of large timber forests with the planting of production forests according to the motto "taking short-term to support long-term", promoting the economy under the forest canopy associated with eco-tourism; providing forestry plant varieties with guaranteed origin and quality; promoting the application of science and technology in afforestation and forestry development. At the same time, strengthen inspection and control of seedling business activities with sudden and unreasonable price increases, taking advantage of the high demand for seeds and materials for reforestation; strictly handle violations in the management of forestry plant varieties to control the quality of seedlings, serving the forestry development of the province.
Absolutely do not be subjective, negligent, or have a mentality of giving up in forest protection management and forest fire prevention and fighting; urgently complete the arrangement, innovation and development, and improve the operational efficiency of agricultural and forestry companies and specialized agencies and advisory agencies on forestry activities in the area.
