The province currently has more than 197,337 elderly people, accounting for 10.94% of the province's population. In recent times, the Provincial Elderly Association at all levels has always paid attention to the care and implementation of policies for the elderly; organized longevity celebrations; coordinated with the health sector to conduct periodic health check-ups and health care for the elderly with chronic, non-communicable diseases; created conditions for the elderly to enjoy social protection policies. Focused on promoting, developing and replicating the model of the LTHTGN Club for the period 2021 - 2025 in the province.

Deployed since 2022, the province currently has 357 LTHTGN Clubs, with 19,000 members. Each club maintains from 50 to 70 members, of which about 70% are elderly, the rest are young people and women account for about 70%. This is a model that clearly converges intergenerational characteristics, creating conditions for the elderly to share life experiences and production guidance, while the young generation adds new energy, bringing excitement to the activities. Notably, more than 50% of club members have access to production and business loans to increase income.

In general, the established LTHTGN Clubs operate effectively, always regularly carrying out activities such as increasing income, taking care of members' health, taking care of the elderly at home based on volunteers, helping each other and supporting the community, protecting rights and interests, raising awareness, knowledge, taking care of members' spiritual life through cultural and artistic activities, visiting, exchanging, mobilizing resources... LTHTGN Club members all benefit from the activities, so they are increasingly attracting the elderly to participate in the activities of the Association of the Elderly, enhancing the prestige of the Association in community life.

Established in August 2022, the LTHTGN Club in Ward 5, Ward 8, My Tho City has become a warm common home for more than 70 elderly people. In addition to physical exercise and health care activities, club members are also examined, monitored for health, and communicated about disease prevention. Mr. Huynh Van Can, Chairman of the LTHTGN Club in Ward 5, shared: “When the club was first established, there were 50 members, mainly retired and elderly people, and now it has increased to 70 members. Club members participate in regular activities very regularly and in an orderly manner, and the Executive Committee also selects the content of the activities to be rich, practical, and close for members to participate in. Each club member works voluntarily, out of a heart for the elderly”.

Chairman of the Provincial Association of the Elderly, Nguyen Ngoc Minh, said: “The greatest effectiveness of the LTHTGN Club model is to build a spirit of “mutual love and affection”, strong solidarity in the community in supporting the elderly in all aspects of life. In localities where there are LTHTGN Clubs, positive changes in the lives of the elderly and the community will be clearly seen. The LTHTGN Club plays an active role in the movement to build a cultural life, maintain security and order in residential areas”.

To further promote the role of caring for the elderly, especially the disadvantaged elderly, the work of replicating the LTHTGN Club model is being actively implemented. The Provincial Association of the Elderly continues to closely coordinate with sectors and localities to create conditions to continue effectively implementing the Project to Replicating the LTHTGN Club model in the direction of maintaining and improving the quality of activities of established clubs and establishing new clubs in accordance with the conditions, actual situation and aspirations of the people; continue to urge and guide 100% of districts, towns and cities to build a Fund for Care and promote the role of the elderly at the grassroots level. In addition, departments, sectors and organizations will also coordinate in organizing appropriate communication activities on mass media, combining visual communication about laws and support policies for the elderly; about the work of caring for the elderly, fully implementing the regimes and policies for the elderly, etc.
