World's tallest wooden wind turbine

Swedish industrial design and construction company Modvion has just completed the installation of a 150m high wooden wind turbine (pictured), the world's tallest wooden wind turbine tower on record.

Height is one of the most important factors for a wind turbine, as it determines the ability of the blades to sweep the wind and collect energy. However, the construction and installation of tall steel turbines, as is commonly done today, is difficult, especially in land installations, because it requires the turbine body diameter and the weight of the structure to increase proportionally.

To manufacture the turbines, Modvion used thin pine wood, which is convenient for creating curved corners of the turbine, and industrial glue to firmly attach multiple layers together according to the mold of each individual module, then transported these modules and installed them together into a complete turbine right at the construction site. The above turbine is installed with a generator with a capacity of 2 megawatts.
