Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong: Lao Cai's achievements have positive contributions from the press.

On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2025), Thoi Dai had an interview with Mr. Trinh Xuan Truong, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Committee of Lao Cai province about the contribution of the press to the development of Lao Cai, especially when the whole country entered the era of national growth.

- Sir, as the head of Lao Cai Provincial Party Committee, through the lens of the press, how do you comment on the comprehensive development of the Provincial Party Committee? Are there any aspects that have not been fully reflected?

- After more than 30 years of re-establishment and development, Lao Cai province has achieved outstanding and breakthrough achievements in many fields; continuing to affirm its position as a developed province in the midland and mountainous region of the North [1] .

The economy has developed quite comprehensively. Implementing three strategic breakthroughs, restructuring the economy associated with renewing the growth model has achieved positive results; the economic structure has shifted positively towards reducing the proportion of agriculture, forestry and fishery, increasing the proportion of industry - construction and services.

Culture and society have made much progress; the fine cultural identity of ethnic minorities has been preserved and effectively promoted; poverty has been reduced rapidly and sustainably; the material and spiritual life of the people has been significantly improved. National defense and security have been maintained, politics have been stable, social order and safety have been ensured; foreign relations and international integration have been effectively implemented. The work of Party building and rectification has achieved many important results; the leadership capacity and fighting strength of Party committees, Party organizations and Party members have been enhanced.

Despite the above results, the development of Lao Cai province still has some limitations such as: Economic growth is not really sustainable; the scale of the economy is still small. The socio-economic infrastructure has not met the development requirements. The restructuring of the industrial sector is still slow, industrial production still faces many difficulties. Service and tourism development is not commensurate with the potential and advantages. The quality of investment attraction is not high. The number of enterprises is still small, lacking large-scale enterprises with strong potential to lead and pioneer in innovation and creativity. The quality of comprehensive education is still limited; high-quality human resources are still lacking; job creation and career conversion for rural workers are not really effective. The lives of a part of the people in remote areas, areas with a large number of ethnic minorities still face many difficulties. The political security, order and social safety situation still has potential complications...

These are the issues that the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in Lao Cai province have been, are and will resolutely resolve, in order to accelerate the pace of development, and together with the whole country, enter a new era, an era of national growth.

- Personally, what do you think are the positive contributions of the press to the socio-economic development of Lao Cai?

-In the journey of more than 30 years of re-establishment, innovation and development, from one of the 6 poorest provinces in the country, Lao Cai province has become one of the developed provinces in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region, and the press has accompanied and participated in all fields, becoming a bridge between the Party, the government and the people, contributing to creating unity within the Party, consensus in society, improving people's knowledge, promoting the image of a dynamic, integrated and developing Lao Cai to the people in the country and the world.

Along with that, the press has contributed to creating good values, mobilizing the combined strength of society, standing side by side with the Party Committee, government and people of Lao Cai province to overcome difficulties and build the future. This is clearly demonstrated in difficult historical moments such as the Covid-19 pandemic, storm No. 3 in 2024. The images of reporters and journalists who are not afraid of danger, venturing into the heart of the epidemic and flood to bring the most authentic and vivid information to readers, creating extraordinary motivation for Lao Cai province to overcome difficulties.

The achievements in all fields of Lao Cai province over the past 30 years have had the active contributions of local press agencies, resident central press agencies and journalists from all over the country.

Located at the gateway to the Northwest of Vietnam with over 182 km of border adjacent to Yunnan province (China), Lao Cai has a particularly important geopolitical and geo-economic position for the country. I hope that the press will continue to accompany and become an important resource, contributing to realizing the goal: Building Lao Cai province to develop comprehensively, entering a new era with the whole country./.
