The Board of Directors of the UNESCO Center for Conservation and Development of Southern Amateur Music was introduced at the ceremony.

With the aim of researching, preserving and developing the nation's unique intangible cultural heritage, specifically Southern amateur music, the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations decided to establish the UNESCO Center for Preservation and Development of Southern Amateur Music.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Tan Anh, Executive Committee Member of the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations, is the Director of the Center.

Activities to preserve and develop amateur music need to be comprehensive.

Formed in the late 19th century, Southern amateur music is a traditional art form of Vietnam, carrying within it unique cultural values passed down through many generations.

Nearly 12 years ago, on December 5, 2013, Southern folk music was recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

According to Mr. Pham Hoang Thinh, head of the representative office of the Vietnam Federation of UNESCO Associations, in order to truly contribute to the preservation and development of traditional music, activities must be comprehensive and truly integrated.

"Therefore, not only the performing instruments and performing techniques, but also related aspects always need to be focused on in parallel. These are space, time, performers, performance scope, audience, and the subject of teaching the profession...

The balance between professionalization and appropriate popularization is also a factor that needs to be calculated with the love for Southern amateur music" - Mr. Thinh said.
