From soldier to writer
Born and raised in a family with a tradition in the police force, Ms. Hoang Xuan Ly soon decided to stick with the green uniform. After graduating from the Institute of Journalism and Propaganda (now the Academy of Journalism and Propaganda), she was assigned to work at the Political Work Department (now the Party and Political Work Department) of the Ha Tinh Provincial Police.
Working closely with articles on industry and provincial newspapers, her articles always breathe life, truthfully reflecting hot issues, typical advances, or examples of police officers and soldiers who are devoted to the people. She has rushed into hot spots, worked side by side with her teammates in major projects to promptly and accurately reflect each development.

Ms. Ly confided: "I entered the journalism profession with a heart full of enthusiasm and love for Ha Tinh , the land where I was born and raised. But it was not until I joined the ranks of the Ha Tinh Police that I truly became attached to this "special career", truly understanding what it means to write with sweat and sleepless nights, with all my heart and mind.
The land of Ha Tinh, always associated with harsh nature, storms and floods, seems that those who grew up in the countryside like us are too familiar with the "great floods". Not only the people of Ha Tinh but also those who do propaganda work cannot forget the memories of the flood.
Once, my brothers and I, together with our working group, went to the flood-prone area of Huong Khe to provide relief to the people in the flood-affected area. The water rose to the roof, the sky was pitch black, each of us carried people on our backs across the freezing cold water. When we delivered boxes of instant noodles and bottles of water to the people in the flood-affected area, we appreciated even more the soldiers who always served the people. I quickly filmed the footage in tears - because of love, because of emotion and because of pride in the People's Public Security soldiers. And then, when it was broadcast, many people realized that: behind those uniforms are hearts that are working hard for the people, for the love of compatriots" .

Send all your passion to silent things
In 2019, Covid-19 came like a storm. These days, Ha Tinh is in social distancing, Ms. Ly is wandering around with patrol teams and epidemic control checkpoints. Dark circles from lack of sleep, chapped hands from constantly using hand sanitizer, hasty meals eaten in the quiet of the night... All appear through her lens and writings - no ostentation, no embellishment, just the truth, simple and full of emotion.
“The article: "Like standing guard lights" is there after all that I went through many "checkpoints", the police soldiers patrolled 24/7 to control people coming in and out. No different from wartime, they were really like lights to help people stay safe. And, when the monsoon came, the wind blew strongly, the small huts were not enough to withstand the storms and heavy rains, our comrades and the Army took turns using leaves to prop up the huts, to keep them from collapsing. Perhaps those months of fighting the epidemic like fighting the enemy were truly unforgettable months" , Ms. Ly recalled.

She said: "I once wrote about a police officer who was close to retirement, but still persisted in issuing ID cards to people in remote areas every night. I once told about a security soldier who silently persuaded people not to be agitated during the environmental incident at Formosa. The first pioneering officers to work as commune police, with poor facilities and far from their families, but they lived among the people, keeping peace for the people...
I still remember clearly the faces in each typical residential group who devoted themselves to the cause of security and order, the women chairmen who diligently helped those who had made mistakes reintegrate into the community, they were the "extended arms" that helped the Ha Tinh Police force keep the peace for the people, and many, many other characters who became an endless source of inspiration for me to continue writing for the past 20 years."
With nearly 20 years of dedication, Ms. Ly has had hundreds of articles published in central and local publications such as the People's Police Newspaper, Security Television, Ha Tinh Newspaper and many other prestigious newspapers. With many outstanding contributions, she has been awarded certificates of merit by the Ministry of Public Security and the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province.
“On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day, I just want to say one simple thing: Thank you to journalism, thank you to the Ha Tinh Police force for giving me a brilliant youth - where my pen was nurtured by ideals, kindness and silent achievements” , Ms. Ly emotionally shared.
In the digital media era, Ms. Ly constantly innovates her methods, applying technology and social networks to promote more effectively. Despite her busy work, she is still willing to guide young colleagues, "passing on the passion of the profession" to the next generation. Female police officer Hoang Xuan Ly is a living proof of the image of a woman who is "good at public affairs and good at housework", both strong in her profession and gentle in every word. Over the past nearly two decades, her journey as a soldier and a journalist has been a beautiful harmony of dedication, passion and belief in the path she has chosen.
