China ready to cooperate with Russia at 'new height'

VnExpressVnExpress24/05/2023

Premier Li Qiang told his Russian counterpart Mikhail Mishustin that China is ready to work together to take bilateral relations to a new level.

"Russia-China relations are at an unprecedented high level. It is a relationship of mutual respect, a desire to jointly deal with challenges related to the growing chaos in the international arena as well as pressure from the West," Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin told his counterpart Li Qiang during a meeting in Beijing on May 24.

Premier Li Qiang praised the Beijing-Moscow comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination in the new era, saying he is willing to work with Russia to lift the relationship to a new level. "I believe that your visit to China this time will leave a deep impression," Li said.

The Chinese premier also noted that bilateral trade between the two countries has reached $70 billion this year, marking an increase of more than 40 percent over the same period last year. "The scale of investment between the two countries is constantly increasing, and major strategic projects are also being promoted," he said.

Russian Prime Minister Mishustin is the highest-ranking Russian official to visit China since Moscow launched hostilities in Ukraine in February 2022.

China is Russia’s largest trading partner, with bilateral trade hitting a record $190 billion last year. The two sides have repeatedly asserted that their good relationship has “no limits,” despite pressure from the West.

Beijing has recently been actively playing a mediating role in the Russia-Ukraine conflict, proposing a 12-point peace plan and appointing a special envoy to Russia and Ukraine, as well as many European countries, to discuss negotiation efforts.
