Workers of Ninh Kieu Electricity Management Team check operations at a transformer station supplying electricity to key areas in Ninh Kieu ward.
Entering the peak of the storm season, Can Tho City Power Company has directed 28 local power management teams to effectively implement measures to ensure electrical safety during the storm season and high tides; strengthen inspections of 110kV power grids and distribution transformer stations to promptly detect and prevent electrical leakage incidents, causing unsafety to the electrical system. At the same time, organize the clearing of trees in the power grid safety corridor, which are at risk of falling onto power lines during storms; carry out repairs, renovations, and cleaning of power grids, and replace rusted electrical cabinets in residential areas and public areas... In particular, directly inspect vulnerable locations that are often flooded during heavy rains to avoid electrical leakage, causing grid incidents; check and raise meter boxes that are likely to be flooded during storms.
The company requires local power management teams to regularly monitor the weather, fully and seriously implement the "4 on-site" motto, mobilize human resources, vehicles, and materials to urgently deploy safety response work, prepare plans to overcome damage and incidents, and promptly restore power supply to customers.
Local electricity management teams also strengthen coordination with local authorities to disseminate basic knowledge about electrical safety during the storm season to organizations, units and people; organize electrical safety inspections in parks, schools, entertainment venues, markets and residential areas... to prevent risks and electrical short circuits that affect people's property and lives during the storm season.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Luc, Head of Safety Department, Can Tho City Electricity Company, said: To ensure electrical safety during the storm season, the Company has requested electricity management teams to develop proactive response plans for natural disasters before and during the storm season; at the same time, organize training and require officers in charge of electrical safety to actively participate in drills to respond to and overcome damage caused by natural disasters. With the prepared work, it will help officers and workers in the electricity industry improve their skills to proactively respond to emergency situations when storms occur. At the same time, improve the effectiveness of coordination between the electricity industry and local authorities in responding to incidents caused by natural disasters as well as well organize the situation of restoring electricity... to meet the electricity demand for production, business and people's daily life after storms.
To use electricity safely as well as prevent and avoid electrical accidents during the rainy season or high tides, the electricity industry recommends that people take good measures, such as regularly checking and maintaining electrical equipment in the house to promptly detect and replace damaged or old equipment to prevent the risk of electrical fires. Pay attention to installing electrical outlets 1.4m above the floor; when water floods the house, people should completely cut off the power source, such as circuit breakers, main circuit breakers and not touch any electrical equipment or tools with wet hands or walking on wet floors; turn off the power supply to outdoor electrical equipment, such as signs, billboards, etc. when it rains heavily or is windy.
In addition, people should install an anti-shock circuit breaker so that when there is an electrical contact, this device will automatically cut off the power supply, helping to prevent electrical accidents. If a broken wire is found falling to the ground, it must be reported immediately to the nearest local electricity department. Actively coordinate with the local electricity department to trim trees in the power grid safety corridor, to prevent electrical incidents from occurring during storms...
When there are electrical problems due to storms, people should immediately contact the Customer Care Center of Southern Power Corporation via 2 numbers: 19001006 - 19009000 for timely support and handling.
