Attention to intellectual property management

According to Mr. Pham Truong Giang, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City, the city always identifies science and technology as one of the driving forces creating the foundation for socio -economic development in general and the business community in particular. Intellectual assets contribute to the process of creating products with high intellectual content, superior quality, saving social costs and promoting investment and development activities. For enterprises and science and technology organizations, intellectual assets are not only unlimited resources but also a tool to bring added value, advantages, prestige, promote innovation, technology transfer and reinvestment in research and development activities.

Representatives of Katec Technology Joint Stock Company shared their experience in intellectual property management at a recent conference in Can Tho City.

In recent times, enterprises and scientific and technological organizations in the city have paid more attention to intellectual property protection activities. Some scientific and technological organizations in the city have initially implemented intellectual property management. For example, Can Tho University, Mekong Delta Rice Research Institute, Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy have issued regulations for intellectual property activities. Scientific and technological organizations focus on research activities to create many new technological processes, exclusive patents, and useful solutions put into practice, creating values to serve the community and contribute to the development of the socio-economy. Some scientific and technological enterprises such as An Bi One Member Co., Ltd., Run Together Sports Technology Joint Stock Company, Katec Technology Joint Stock Company..., have a correct understanding of the importance of intellectual property and are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills in intellectual property management. Register for intellectual property protection early to increase product value and affirm reputation and quality in the market.

Mr. Truong Hoang Khai, Chairman of the Board of Directors - Director of Katec Technology Joint Stock Company, shared: “From the very beginning, we determined that intellectual property is not only a right, but also a responsibility and the core foundation of long-term development. In 2024, we were certified as a science and technology enterprise, an important milestone, affirming the research capacity of our internal technical team. To date, Katec has built and owned 3 protected brands: Katec, Kaviet and Kafood. Intellectual property is not just a legal seal or a diploma hanging on the wall. For Katec, it is the crystallization of creative work, the pride of our young engineers, and the “soft lever” that helps us affirm our position in the Vietnamese software technology industry.”

Intellectual property management is the process by which property owners take control measures over assets, with the aim of creating, protecting, commercializing and creating value. According to a number of enterprises and scientific and technological organizations in the city, intellectual property management activities are still difficult and limited. Specifically, a number of individuals and organizations are not fully aware of the importance of intellectual property in protecting research results; do not clearly understand the process of registering for intellectual property protection. Financial support for protection registration is limited; there is a lack of specialized human resources for intellectual property in organizations and enterprises. Research products have not been effectively commercialized; there is a lack of mechanisms to monitor and handle copyright infringement, especially in the online environment... Therefore, it is necessary to support raising awareness and capacity for intellectual property management for scientific and technological organizations and enterprises in the context of a strongly developing digital economy.

According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Hoa Nghiem, Head of the Department of Science and Technology Management - Innovation - International Cooperation, Can Tho University of Technology, protecting intellectual property rights is the key to helping the school improve its position in the academic community. Therefore, the school raises awareness of intellectual property rights protection through organizing training courses, seminars on intellectual property; providing in-depth advice on intellectual property rights. Cooperating with management agencies, service centers to support procedures and financial support. Developing strategies to commercialize research results; expanding cooperation with international organizations to protect intellectual property rights in the global market.

Mr. Truong Hoang Khai suggested that specialized agencies increase free or low-cost consulting for businesses on intellectual property procedures. Build more convenient search and registration platforms for small businesses. On the other hand, there should be an emergency protection mechanism in case of copyright infringement, helping businesses feel secure in their creativity. “We believe that, with proper support and a long-term vision, Vietnamese businesses can completely master the game of creativity and intellectual property protection - right on their own home turf,” said Mr. Truong Hoang Khai.

Mr. Pham Truong Giang said: To support enterprises, science and technology organizations in the city to develop creative activities, protect and effectively exploit intellectual assets, the Department of Science and Technology of Can Tho City has ordered the National Intellectual Property Institute to carry out the task of "Building and piloting the intellectual property management model for a number of enterprises and organizations in Can Tho City" under the intellectual property development program of Can Tho City until 2030. Thereby, gradually supporting enterprises and organizations to replicate the intellectual property management model, implementing measures to exploit and protect intellectual assets, bringing economic value, helping to minimize many risks in a volatile and competitive environment.
