As with the previous 6 exhibitions, all the paintings in the exhibition Invisible Presences this time are also unnamed. According to the author, because he does not want to impose or orient the public's understanding of art, he does not want to name the works, because for Bui Chat, a specific name will never express the true development of the situations.

Painter Bui Chat said: "Situational painting is a form of painting without a purpose, so it does not adhere to a specific idea as a goal of expression. Situational painting often only deals with colors in each moment, and always changes the emotional state according to each internal situation when practicing."

It is known that the 12 paintings in the exhibition Invisible Presences by Bui Chat are all abstract works with mixed media on wood, including: wood, books, nails, screws, acrylic, oil paint, spray paint, silicone glue... and 1 installation work.

Unexpected visual effects, with lots of emotions

The installation consists of a wooden bookshelf and hundreds of books. The books are placed neatly on the shelves, and the shelves are placed neatly in a corner of the wall. The entire installation (including all the books and wooden shelves) is painted white. All the books on the shelves have no names, so no one can know what the hundreds of books on the shelves are, or even know what books they are...

Author Bui Chat skillfully uses some techniques of the Dada school, combined with situational painting to create abstract works by assembling, joining, attaching, gluing, closing... combined with materials (books) on the painting surface randomly, with arbitrary thickness, thinness, sparseness, tightness. Finally, interacting with colors and layout to create unexpected visual effects, with many mixed emotions...

When looking at the works, viewers suddenly exclaim with delight because they see a shelf, a very beautiful decoration but it seems invisible. The white books seem to be lost in the white of the wooden shelf, the shelf seems to be lost in the white of the wall and the white space of the exhibition room. All create a vague and difficult to define effect but convey many nostalgic stories that the author wants to convey.

Looking at the paintings of artist Bui Chat through the exhibition Invisible Presences , art critic Nguyen Hung commented: "That is the world , in which people can go back and forth through the dimensions of space and time of the history of civilization and the human spirit. It is a gate that opens to many dimensions, not only taking people to heaven, but also leading people to hell. It is a window that opens to many dimensions, directing people's eyes to the clear sky of freedom, but also directing people's eyes to the dark dungeon of prejudice and conservatism... This bookshelf covered entirely in white is an 'invisible presence' that forces viewers to ponder the cultural and ideological connotations hidden deep in the unique world of books".

The exhibition takes place at J Art Space (30 Street No. 10, Thao Dien, Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) until June 2, 2024.
