Saigon – Cho Lon – Gia Dinh was a large urban center in the South, an important strategic area, closely associated with the revolutionary movement of the whole country. The people here are famous for being hard-working, creative, patriotic, and resilient in fighting against foreign invaders.
During the 30-year long resistance war, the Party Committee and people of Saigon - Cho Lon - Gia Dinh "stood at the forefront of the storm, in the midst of the enemy's lair, still steadfast and indomitable", together with the heroic Southern citadel, overcame countless hardships, established many glorious feats, contributing to the great victory, liberating the South, and unifying the country.
75 years ago, the Saigon-Cho Lon Regional Party Committee decided to preemptively attack American intervention with coordinated military and political struggles.

From the initial gathering point, people took to the streets towards Ben Thanh Market, waving high the red flag with a yellow star and a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh , shouting the slogan “Down with French imperialism and its lackeys”, protesting against US intervention in Vietnam.
The event of March 19, 1950 caused a great resonance throughout the country, going down in national history as "National Day of Anti-Americanism".
