Here, CEO Tim Cook pledged to invest $100 billion in component manufacturing companies and suppliers in the US over the next four years. At the same time, he gave President Donald Trump a special gift.

Apple said its investment would encourage foreign companies to buy more components made in the U.S. In February, Apple also pledged to invest $500 billion in the U.S. over the next four years to mine rare earths and invest in building AI servers in the U.S.

“This is the largest investment Apple has ever made in the United States or anywhere else,” President Trump said. “As you know, Apple has invested in a number of other countries, I won’t say which ones, but now they’re coming home.”

President Trump said he expects new factories in the US to be built based on his policies.

During a meeting with President Trump, CEO Tim Cook said Apple has created a project called the “Made in America Program,” in which the company will invest $2.5 billion to fund an expansion project at Corning’s tempered glass factory in Kentucky.

All future iPhone and Apple Watch display glass will use tempered glass produced by this factory.

At the White House, Tim Cook also gave President Trump a special souvenir, made from Corning tempered glass, with a 24K gold base, as a move to affirm Apple's investment in Corning's glass factory in the US.

In addition, Apple also said it has signed a multi-year supply agreement with US company Coherent to produce laser sensors for the facial recognition system on the iPhone.

Apple will also invest in GlobalFoundries, an older chipmaker with factories in Utah and Texas, to produce wireless charging chips for Apple products.

According to Apple, US manufacturing plants and supply chains provide more than 19 billion different components for Apple products, including chips from Texas Instruments, chips made at TSMC's factory in Arizona, and many other components.

“President Trump had a lot of praise for what we’re doing, but he also asked us to think about what else we can do. Mr. President, we’re taking this challenge very seriously,” CEO Tim Cook said after presenting Trump with plans to invest in the United States.

Apple's investment in the US is seen as a move to appease President Donald Trump, as he has repeatedly criticized Apple and Tim Cook for not manufacturing iPhones in the US.

Mr. Trump has continuously put pressure, even threatened to impose separate taxes on Apple products when imported into the US, even though Apple itself and economic experts previously affirmed that producing iPhones in the US was impossible due to the lack of labor force and component supply chain.

Now, instead of making iPhones at home, Apple is investing in factories in the US to supply components to Apple itself and other technology companies, a move that has somewhat pleased Mr. Trump.
