As a result, ST25 rice of Ho Quang Enterprise (Soc Trang) has successfully surpassed Thai rice, winning the first prize of the World's Best Rice 2019 contest.
ST25 rice variety was researched and bred by a group of engineers Ho Quang Cua, Dr. Tran Tan Phuong and Master Nguyen Thi Thu Huong. This fragrant rice variety was initially researched 10 years ago. In 2014, it was put into testing and in 2016, it began trial planting. This is a short-term rice variety, with better disease resistance than some traditional rice varieties, with a yield of up to 7 tons per hectare. In addition to being a specialty rice variety, ST25 is also considered a rice variety that adapts to climate change in the Mekong Delta. It grows well in saline and alum soil. In particular, ST25 is very suitable for rice-shrimp intercropping areas. ST25 rice has the characteristics of very white rice, white and very natural rice, and is favored by consumers.
