After 34 years of establishing diplomatic relations (1989), Vietnam - Brazil relations have developed well.

The two countries became Comprehensive Partners in 2007. Brazil is currently Vietnam's largest trading partner in Latin America and second in the Americas after the United States.

In 2022, two-way trade turnover reached a record of 6.78 billion USD, of which Vietnam exported 2.24 billion USD and imported 4.55 billion USD.

Regarding investment, Brazil currently has 6 investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of 3.83 million USD. With Brazil's role as rotating chair of the MERCOSUR bloc in 2023, the two countries are actively promoting the launch of negotiations on the Vietnam - MERCOSUR Free Trade Agreement ( FTA ).

Once completed and signed, this FTA will further open the door for Vietnamese goods to enter the South American market.

In addition to cooperation in the field of diplomacy, the two countries also have cooperation mechanisms in the fields of defense, agriculture, science and technology, education and training, and culture.

On the multilateral front, the two countries share common views on many international issues and support each other at multilateral forums.
