(Dan Tri) - From July 30 to August 1, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh paid his first state visit to India as head of government.
At the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh will pay a State visit to India from July 30 to August 1, according to information from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . This is Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's first visit as head of the Government.

The visit took place after India successfully held the 18th Lok Sabha election with the victory of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and Prime Minister Narendra Modi was re-elected for a third consecutive term. The Vietnam-India Comprehensive Strategic Partnership has developed positively with a solid foundation of relations and high political trust. Along with that, relations between the Party, State, National Assembly and people have been expanded, with regular visits and contacts at high and all levels, at all channels. Defense and security are important pillars with the two countries signing the Joint Vision Statement on Defense Partnership and the Memorandum of Understanding on Logistics Support (June 2022) and defense industry cooperation. Economically, two-way trade turnover has increased 2.5 times since the two countries upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (2016), reaching nearly 15 billion USD in 2023. As of May 2024, trade turnover between the two countries reached nearly 5.94 billion USD, of which Vietnam's exports to India reached 3.56 billion USD and imports from India reached nearly 2.38 billion USD (we had a trade surplus of 1.1 billion USD). India currently has 380 valid investment projects with a total capital of 1.067 billion USD, ranking 24th out of 144 countries and territories investing in Vietnam. According to the assessment, Vietnam and India still have a lot of potential in trade and investment cooperation with many strengths such as the world's most populous market and dynamic economic development. Recently, large Indian corporations have shown interest in the Vietnamese market in strategic areas such as renewable energy, processing industry, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, and logistics. Cooperation in the fields of culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchange between the two countries has also continued to be strengthened and expanded. According to data released by the General Department of Tourism, in the first 5 months of 2024, the number of Indian visitors to Vietnam reached 196,000, an increase of 39.2% over the same period in 2023, ranking among the 10 largest markets sending visitors to Vietnam. In 2023, Vietnam welcomed about 355,000 Indian tourists. Air and maritime connectivity between the two countries has been boosted with 54 direct flights per week between Vietnam and India. In addition, cooperation in the fields of science - technology, information - communication, education - training, culture - tourism, and people-to-people exchange have all developed positively. India is an important member, with a voice in multilateral forums and in the international arena. Regarding the East Sea issue, India has a positive stance when emphasizing the direction of resolving disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, UNCLOS, and supporting COC negotiations.
