This conference is not only a forum for professional exchange, but also an opportunity for delegates from different countries to share multi-dimensional perspectives on tourism , culture, as well as creative and sustainable tourism development models after the pandemic. The event creates opportunities for deeper connection and cooperation between governments, businesses and social organizations in the tourism sector.
The conference took place from July 2-4, co-organized by Duy Tan University ( Da Nang ) and Passage to ASEAN (P2A) - a network of 145 universities and colleges from 10 ASEAN countries. The conference focused on discussing 4 main groups of contents: (1) Strengthening security and facilitating tourism: Unifying solutions to ensure safety and security of tourism in the new context, promoting more flexible and convenient visa policies for tourists between the two regions. (2) Improving tourism infrastructure to enhance the experience of tourists: Sharing investment experiences, improving infrastructure, applying technology to enhance the experience for international tourists. (3) Training and developing tourism human resources: Strengthening training cooperation, improving the capacity of tourism staff in the entire ASEAN bloc and Korea. (4) Promoting understanding of cultural diversity between ASEAN countries and Korea: Honoring the cultural, artistic and heritage diversity of the countries, thereby expanding people-to-people exchanges, creating a solid foundation for sustainable tourism development.

Speaking at the opening session, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vietnam Ho An Phong affirmed that in recent times, tourism cooperation between ASEAN and Korea has made remarkable progress, demonstrated by the strong recovery of tourist numbers, improvement of service quality, and diversification of cooperation forms. In the context of innovation, adaptation and increasingly important cultural and social cohesion, this is the foundation for promoting sustainable tourism development.

Deputy Minister Ho An Phong said that in 2024, ASEAN welcomed nearly 127 million international visitors, of which Korea was one of the three largest sending markets, with about 10 million arrivals. In particular, Vietnam was very pleased to be the leading destination in the region chosen by Korean tourists with 4.6 million arrivals. This is a clear demonstration of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Korea, and at the same time shows the trust, love and increasingly deep attachment between the people of the two countries.
With close coordination and long-term vision, the Deputy Minister believes in the strong growth potential of ASEAN - Korea tourist flows, thereby promoting cultural exchange and strengthening friendly relations between countries.
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong hopes that the conference will provide valuable lessons and practical policy recommendations. This will be an important basis for ASEAN and Korea to formulate policies and promote sustainable, inclusive and flexible tourism cooperation in the face of future challenges.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Tran Anh Tuan - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City informed that Da Nang is striving to become a high-quality tourism and service center, as well as a leading creative destination in Vietnam and Southeast Asia by 2030, creating a foundation to become one of the leading tourism centers in the region and the world by 2045.
Mr. Tran Anh Tuan affirmed that Da Nang will always create the best conditions for the development of key industries, especially tourism. At the same time, the city will closely coordinate with relevant parties to enhance security and safety for tourists, simplify immigration procedures and apply technology to bring experiences to domestic and international tourists.

According to Mr. Le Nguyen Bao - President of Duy Tan University, the young generation plays a core role in the strategy of developing sustainable tourism in the region. In the context of the global tourism industry being strongly restructured after the pandemic, young human resources, with new thinking, the ability to adapt to technology and the spirit of international integration, are the key for countries to make a breakthrough. Universities actively contribute to this goal, through high-quality training programs, international cooperation and knowledge transfer from practice to the classroom.

Immediately after the opening session, the first discussion session with the theme "Enhancing security and facilitating tourism development" took place with the participation of speakers, representatives of tourism management agencies of various countries, and tourism policy makers.
The ASEAN-Korea Tourism Roundtable Project was launched in August 2024 under the framework of the comprehensive economic cooperation initiative between the governments of ASEAN countries and the Republic of Korea (AKFTA), with the aim of promoting tourism exchanges and cooperation between ASEAN countries and the Republic of Korea.
South Korea and ASEAN are currently each other’s third-largest tourism source markets. In 2024, visitors from ASEAN will account for 15.4% of total international arrivals to South Korea, while South Korea will contribute 8.2% of international arrivals to ASEAN in 2023.
