BCG Energy proposes survey and investment in pumped storage hydropower in Lam Dong

BCG Energy proposed that Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee consider and allow surveying, researching and establishing an investment project, finding opportunities to develop the Don Duong pumped storage hydropower project and proposing a waste-to-energy incineration project.

BCG Energy Joint Stock Company (a member of Bamboo Capital Group) has just proposed that the People's Committee of Lam Dong province consider and allow it to conduct surveys in Da Lat, Don Duong district and other localities to study and establish investment projects, seek opportunities to develop the Don Duong pumped storage hydropower project and propose a waste-to-energy incineration project.

According to the proposal, Lam Dong province has mountainous terrain and abundant water resources with three main rivers: Da Dang River, La Nga River, and Da Nhim River.

Rivers and streams in the area are distributed quite evenly, with an average density of 0.6 km/km2 and a bottom slope of less than 1%, with 73 reservoirs and 92 dams. Therefore, the potential for pumped storage hydropower is very large.

According to the Lam Dong Provincial Planning approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1727/QD-TTg dated December 29, 2023, there are 6 proposed pumped storage hydropower projects with a total capacity of about 6,000 MW in Di Linh, Da Teh, and Lam Ha districts.

A study by BCG Energy shows that, in addition to the 6 pumped storage hydropower projects mentioned above, the Don Duong pumped storage hydropower project with a capacity of...

According to statistics in 2021, the total volume of domestic waste in the province is about 936 tons/day, of which 481 tons/day is in urban areas and 455 tons/day is in rural areas. The waste collection rate in urban areas is only 88.2%, the remaining 11.8% is not collected; the waste collection rate in rural areas is lower than in urban areas.

According to Decision No. 2617/QD-UBND dated November 17, 2020 of Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee on approving the Project to improve the capacity of collection, transportation and treatment of domestic solid waste in Lam Dong province by 2025, with a vision to 2030, the volume of waste collected in urban areas is expected to be 1,510 tons/day, and in rural areas is 464 tons/day.

The plan to implement the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 262/QD-TTg dated April 1, 2024. The source of electricity produced from waste in Lam Dong province by 2030 is 10 MW.

"With current financial capacity and experience in implementing energy projects, aiming to supplement energy sources for the national grid, develop renewable energy, aim for sustainable development, contribute to waste reduction, environmental protection and contribute to local budget revenue, BCG Energy proposes that Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee consider and allow BCG Energy and the consulting unit to conduct surveys in Da Lat, Don Duong district and other localities to study and establish investment projects, seek opportunities to develop the Don Duong pumped storage hydropower project and propose a waste-to-energy incineration project," BCG Energy proposed.
