Why are beauty queens not chosen to compete internationally?
On the afternoon of July 7, the organizing committee and the top 4 of Miss Earth Vietnam 2025 held a press conference. At the event, 3rd runner-up Trinh My Anh was unexpectedly announced as the representative of Vietnam to compete in Miss Earth 2025.
This decision surprised many people because Miss Ngo Thi Tram Anh and 1st Runner-up Bui Ly Thien Huong were not chosen.
Explaining the reason, Mr. Phan Duy Khanh - Head of the organizing committee - said: "When choosing an international representative, the first name I thought of was Bui Ly Thien Huong. But she is too old compared to the 18-28 age limit of Miss Earth".
Regarding Miss Tram Anh (born 2006), Mr. Khanh said: "We think Tram Anh needs more time to practice and hone her skills, because she is still new. If she maintains her progressive spirit, Tram Anh can completely represent Vietnam in Miss Earth 2026."
According to Mr. Khanh, 3rd runner-up My Anh is the right choice, because she has more experience and courage. The organizers believe that the runner-up is mentally ready, showing maturity throughout the competition.
Runner-up My Anh shared: "I was surprised and somewhat worried when I learned that I was chosen, but I believe that no one is perfect. I will come to the competition with the most sincere version of myself."
During the exchange, Miss Tram Anh also frankly shared that she had read negative comments after the coronation night. "I definitely felt pressure, but I chose to look at it in order to try harder every day," she said.
Bikini incident
Besides the story of choosing international representatives, the organizers also responded to some controversies surrounding the final night, especially the bikini incident.
Mr. Phan Duy Khanh confirmed that the contestants were only given one bikini of the same size and were not allowed to try it on previously. Some contestants did not fit the bikini, leading to unwanted revealing moments on television.
"It was the organizers' fault. We will learn from our mistakes," he said.
Earlier in the competition night, the top 20 contestants all wore turquoise bikinis with asymmetrical designs, off-shoulders and bold cuts. The highlight is the metal ring connecting the chest and waist, combined with a long veil to create softness and flexibility when performing.
Despite investment in image, the bikini competition still did not satisfy the audience because many contestants clearly showed limitations in catwalk skills, stage presence and uneven body shape.
The gaffe made the highly anticipated performance even more controversial. Many people said that the organizers were not careful, leading to inappropriate moments being broadcast on national television.
