Mbappe is going through a strange difficult period of his career. On the day of Real Madrid's match at the FIFA Club World Cup, Mbappé suddenly suffered from acute gastritis.
He suffered from gastroenteritis - an acute inflammation of the stomach and intestines that often causes nausea, diarrhea and abdominal pain.
The incident occurred shortly after the second training session in Miami, forcing him to be rushed to the hospital on June 18. Although he was discharged the following day, Mbappé was still quarantined to avoid infecting his teammates.
Mbappé's health condition kept him out of Real Madrid's first two matches of the tournament: a 1–1 draw with Al Hilal and a 3–1 win over Pachuca.
The team's medical department reported that Mbappe had dropped from 75kg to 70kg after a serious illness. The rapid weight loss has caused Mbappe's appearance and muscles to change significantly, causing experts to worry about his physical condition before the next matches.
After being discharged from hospital, Mbappé returned to the team's training area around June 19 and began individual training at the gym on June 23 in Miami.
By June 25, Mbappe was able to go out to practice with his teammates. The French superstar laughed and joked happily on the field, showing that he had almost fully recovered.
However, coach Xabi Alonso still decided to be extremely cautious about Mbappe's health. According to the latest information from journalist Fabrizio Romano, Mbappe was removed from the registration list for the match against Salzburg on the morning of June 27.
Mbappe's absence forced coach Alonso to use Gonzalo Garcia - the young player who scored in the opening match. Despite not playing very well, Real Madrid still won 4 points after 2 matches. Just a draw against Salzburg will give Real Madrid a ticket to the next round.
