The simple, rustic sounds from bamboo and earth of the Dan Do band resounded in the second music night called Chuyen Cua Do of the Thousand-Year Storytelling project, taking place on the evening of October 26 at Lotus Gallery.
Almost all the seats in the auditorium were filled with Vietnamese and foreign guests. They temporarily put aside all their daily worries to have a moment of silence with original music .
Audience member Hoang Nhat Mai shared on her personal page after attending the music night Chuyen cua Do : "The music of Dan Do is not simply a performing art, but also a journey of feeling, an echo of the past and the future, where Vietnamese indigenous culture is honored and reborn in the form of sounds!".

Whisper of Bamboo and Earth
"Dan Do" is a set of musical instruments including: water drum, thanh drum, zither, do cot, do pair, con te, dat, jar drum, lang drum, and nieu. These 10 musical instruments exploit the features and expressiveness of Vietnamese bamboo and soil in music created by the Dan Do group after 12 years of research and study.
In the music nights of "Story of That" , "Dan Do" is both a musical instrument, a prop and a narrator.
Audiences hear distinct sounds, associated with happy and sad memories, the passion and heart of the artist behind each work and musical instrument.
It is the soft, murmuring sound of water drops falling from the water drum; the deep, smooth sounds from the drum;
The sound of the baby peeing is like the sound of insects, frogs or the gentle sound of a zither, as emotional as the earth...
Then the low versions of the instrument have a sound similar to the Central Highlands gong, the high versions have a bright sound like metal, bringing a pleasant, clear and pure feeling.
Mr. Dinh Anh Tuan, leader of the Dan Do band, told Tuoi Tre Online that the idea for their creation came from the opportunity they had to learn and exchange contemporary art methods during their tours in Europe:
"After the trips, we wanted to return to our birthplace because this place is rich in materials and ideas. The learning and experimenting made us come up with the idea of doing something valuable together for local art."

Traditional culture is the driving force to stand shoulder to shoulder with international friends
The music night " Story of That" is part of the series of activities of the project "Tell a Thousand-Year Story" , a project combining music and contemporary painting to help audiences not only enjoy art but also find their way back to the roots of national culture.
The first issue of the project is a combination of an exhibition of 42 watercolor paintings by artist Truong Han Minh and the music night Story of That.
Mr. Pham Thien Vu, author of the project Telling stories of a thousand years , shares about the spirit of the project:
"Ever since the Vietnamese community formed, we have woven our own unique cultural story.
A story imbued with depth and power, to the point that despite more than a thousand years of war, we still retain our language, community, neighborly love and unique cultural features of the nation.
Culture is the current within us in the present. Connecting and learning about culture gives us confidence, resilience and the mindset to stand shoulder to shoulder with international friends."

Sharing with Tuoi Tre Online about the audience effect in the project's activities and competition with other entertainment programs, Mr. Thien Vu said:
"Maybe today, the audience has exciting moments with Anh trai say hi, Anh trai dua ngan cong gai, but tomorrow, they also need to calm down to find original cultural values.
With our shows, the audience demand is always there. They buy tickets to see the show and look for experiences that are hard to find on the internet."
After the painting exhibition by Truong Han Minh and the music night "Story of That" , the project "Tell a Thousand-Year Story" will continue to search for and bring to the public indigenous materials and traditions typical of the Vietnamese people.
