Riverbank landslide in Bac Lieu, 27 houses affected

On the afternoon of June 21, Mr. Tra Van Nui, Chairman of Ward 5 People's Committee ( Bac Lieu City, Bac Lieu Province), said that a riverbank landslide had just occurred in the ward, affecting 27 households.

"The authorities are calculating the extent of the damage and determining the cause," Mr. Nui informed Dan Tri reporter.

The landslide occurred at around 11:30 p.m. on June 20 on the Bac Lieu - Ca Mau river section with a length of about 400m. Of the 27 affected households, 3 had their entire back part of their house washed away into the river; the remaining households had cracked walls and sunken floors...

Mr. Trinh Ngoc Duoc (an affected household) said that at around 11:30 p.m. he was sleeping in the front house. Hearing a loud noise, he woke up and ran out to see that part of the back house had collapsed into the river.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tan (an affected resident) said that the house later collapsed into the river very quickly, in just about 10 minutes.

On the morning of June 21, local authorities mobilized people whose houses were affected to urgently move their assets to a safe place.

In the immediate future, the locality will coordinate with relevant units to support 3 severely affected households with 5 million VND each.
