Recently, the travel guide Lonely Planet published an article voting on "the most beautiful railway routes in the world ".
Among the 24 railway lines in the world named on the experience journey in the Amazing Train Journeys edition, the Thong Nhat train - Vietnam's North-South railway line tops the list.

The article is based on the selection criteria in the itinerary. These include spectacular scenery; historical and cultural values brought to visitors; unique experiences; connectivity and discovery; and the ability to inspire sustainable tourism .

Standing at the top of the list of the most beautiful train journeys in the world, Lonely Planet mentioned the Thong Nhat train departing from Ho Chi Minh City to the capital Hanoi and vice versa.
The train runs daily and covers a distance of 1,726km. The author of the article commented that this is one of the most popular railway lines in Southeast Asia, and at the same time the most impressive overnight train journey in the world.
With a travel time of about 2 days, passengers can visit provinces from the South to the North through the windows. The train passes through ancient cities, historical tourist attractions and glides along the spectacular coastal route. The natural landscape of the S-shaped country will be fast-forwarded like a movie.
Previously in 2018, this site also voted the North-South railway line in the list of "10 most beautiful railway lines in the world".
Next, in 2019, Russia's Sputnik news agency also voted for the "10 most beautiful railway lines in the world", in which the Thong Nhat railway line was also on this list.
Most recently in January this year, the Reunification Train also ranked third among nine railway routes worth experiencing. This is a journey suggested by the leading European train service provider Rail Europe.
2024 is also the year that marks a record increase in the number of train passengers. According to data from Vietnam Railways Corporation (VNR), the unit welcomed more than 7 million passengers, an increase of nearly 1 million compared to the previous year. This number is the highest recorded ever.
Travel experts say that many factors are causing tourists to choose to travel by train instead of other means of transport. One of them is that VNR applies a ticket price policy to attract demand during the low tourist season. There are times when ticket prices are reduced by up to 50% depending on the seat class.
