In early June, Pham Quang Tuyen (31 years old, freelance photographer, living in Hanoi) went on a 2-day, 2-night trip to Y Ty plateau (Bat Xat district, Lao Cai province) on a tour. He departed from Hanoi and stayed at a homestay at the foot of Lao Than mountain, 13 km from the center of Choan Thoen village, surrounded by mountains.
Having learned a lot about Y Ty, on this trip, the male tourist decided to explore the plateau in a new way, experiencing many activities he had never tried before, such as hiking and trekking.
Each season, the plateau has a different beauty. From September to April of the following year, Y Ty enters the "cloud hunting" season. Tourists can also enjoy the ripe rice season from August to October. Summer is the period when the natural scenery is brilliant, the streams are full of water and the weather is cool. The day Quang Tuyen arrived, the temperature was only about 20 degrees Celsius.
On the first day, the group went to the stream near the homestay and had breakfast by the stream, before starting to cross the cardamom forest to the main waterfall. During the journey, the eye was captivated by the true mountain forest space with lush green vegetation, occasional bird sounds, and the sound of the stream.
In the middle of the forest, a white waterfall poured down from a height of dozens of meters, the sound echoed. The water flowed through mossy cliffs, making the scene wild. At noon, the whole group bathed in the cool waterfall, had lunch and slept under large rocks.
The next destination was a valley with green grass, a lake, and clouds and mountains. "Although I only stayed here for about an hour, I had to scream continuously because I was so fascinated. The majestic mountain scenery, white clouds and Ha Nhi people herding buffaloes, everything exceeded my expectations," the male tourist shared.
On the second day, after walking around Muong Hum market and eating sturgeon hotpot, the male tourist took a local motorbike taxi to visit Dragon Waterfall, the village nestled in the valley and the terraced fields next to the large dam.
The terraced fields in Y Ty are arc-shaped, stretching along the mountainside and are famous for their golden season. In June, the plateau enters the flooding season with layers of strange colors. In 2015, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism classified the terraced fields of The Pa valley (Y Ty commune) as a national monument.
"At the end of the trip, I had many beautiful photos in my memory and a mind filled with the natural scenery of the Northwest. Completely different from the quietness of winter, the Y Ty plateau in summer made me feel like I was entering another world," Quang Tuyen said. |
Located at an altitude of over 2,000 m, the Y Ty plateau is covered in clouds all year round. This place is not only famous for its golden season but also as a "land of fog", attracting those who love to "hunt" clouds and photos.
In the first 4 months of 2025, the number of tourists to Lao Cai reached more than 4 million. Y Ty commune alone welcomed more than 20,000 visitors in the first quarter. The goal in 2025 is to have a total number of visitors to Y Ty reach 250,000.
