Samsung develops Galaxy Ring smart ring

VietNamNetVietNamNet20/07/2023

Galaxy Ring will use a circuit board manufactured by Meiko (Japan). In electronic devices, the printed circuit board is usually developed first, followed by other components attached.

Oura smart ring.

Smart rings look like regular rings and are worn on the finger. However, they contain sensors that collect health data from the wearer and send it to a smartphone.

Currently, the Finnish company Oura has provided a smart ring equipped with sensors, batteries, and Bluetooth connectivity. Oura's ring weighs from 4 to 6 grams, has a maximum battery life of 1 week, and charges in 80 minutes.

Although development of the Galaxy Ring has begun, it is unclear whether Samsung will actually sell the product. According to The Elec, the company will decide this after evaluating the prototype made with Meiko.

Because smart rings are in closer contact with the wearer’s body than smart watches, they can measure more accurately. However, blood flow through the fingers is weaker than through the wrist. In addition, rings that are too tight will cause errors.

Meanwhile, Samsung is also preparing to introduce augmented reality glasses in 2024. The company planned to announce them in late 2023, but delayed them because the screens on the glasses were of inferior quality to the OLED screens Apple used in its Vision Pro glasses. A lack of content for the device was also a factor in the delay.
