Quang Tri: Completed the removal of temporary and dilapidated houses 2 months early

(Chinhphu.vn) - Completing the project 2 months ahead of schedule, Quang Tri province affirmed its high political determination in taking care of social security when mobilizing 607 billion VND to build 9,860 houses, officially eliminating the situation of temporary and dilapidated houses in the whole province.

Quang Tri : Where faith sprouts from new homes

In the highlands of Huong Hoa district, Quang Tri province, new, spacious houses are springing up one after another, not only changing the face of the mountainous countryside, but also bringing faith, joy and hope to thousands of poor households and families with preferential policies.

In an indescribable emotion, Mrs. Ho Thi Tham (85 years old, in Huong Hoa district) choked up as she received the new, spacious house built with support from the Ministry of Public Security in coordination with the province. Mrs. Tham said that for many years, she had lived in a dilapidated old house, had to use nylon bags to cover the roof in the rainy season, and was swelteringly hot in the dry season. She never thought that in her old age, she would one day be able to live in a solid, clean and beautiful house like today.

"I didn't dare to dream, but now that I have a new house, I feel very warm. I am very grateful to the Party, the State and the police force!", Ms. Ho Thi Tham shared.

Housing support activities for people in difficult circumstances in Quang Tri are one of the profound humanitarian imprints in the social security program of the Ministry of Public Security. In 2024, the Ministry of Public Security donated 200 houses to ethnic minorities in difficult circumstances in Huong Hoa and Dakrong districts. Continuing the program, from the beginning of 2025, the Ministry of Public Security continued to mobilize and support the construction of 1,143 more houses for the poor and meritorious people facing housing difficulties in Quang Tri province, with a total cost of 80 billion VND .

Mountain people have a new, solid house, safe during the stormy season.

Each house in the program is built at a cost of 100 million VND , of which the Ministry of Public Security supports 70 million VND , the rest is matched by Quang Tri province. The houses ensure durability, suitability to local conditions and are implemented on schedule.

In late June, the Ministry of Public Security delegation directly handed over houses to the families of Ms. H'Lien (71 years old, suffering from heart disease, in extremely difficult circumstances) and Ms. Ho Thi Tham - two typical cases of the program. These loving homes not only help people stabilize their lives but are also a vivid symbol of the spirit of "Serving the People", affirming the role, responsibility and heart of the People's Public Security force in the work of building great national unity, ensuring social security and sustainable development in mountainous, remote and isolated areas.

Construction and repair of 9,860 houses

Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Quang Tri province Dao Manh Hung said that with the drastic and synchronous participation of the entire political system, the close leadership of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee and the consensus and widespread response of all classes of people, by June 23, Quang Tri province had completed ahead of schedule the program of eliminating temporary and dilapidated houses and providing housing support for poor and near-poor households, people with revolutionary contributions and relatives of martyrs.

The province has built and repaired a total of 9,860 houses with a total cost of 607 billion VND, including 2,374 houses for people with revolutionary contributions and martyrs' relatives, and 7,486 houses for poor and near-poor households, reaching 141.5% of the plan.

Notably, Quang Tri completed the program 2 months ahead of schedule (June 30, 2025 instead of August 30, 2025). 100% of supported households have started building houses, over 80% have been completed and put into use.

The program has mobilized nearly 450 billion VND from socialized sources, accounting for 87% of the total capital, with active contributions from the Ministry of National Defense, the Ministry of Public Security, large corporations, banks and many charitable organizations and individuals. Along with that, thousands of working days, supplies and materials were contributed by people, organizations and the community, contributing to deeply demonstrating the spirit of solidarity, mutual love and the strength of the whole people in caring for social security.

The success of the program does not stop at specific numbers, but also arouses the people's firm belief in the leadership of the Party, the executive role of the government and the active supervision of the Fatherland Front. This is an important foundation for Quang Tri to continue to effectively implement sustainable poverty reduction policies, build new rural areas and comprehensive development, towards the goal of ensuring a prosperous and happy life for the people.
