The main content of the working session focused on the training plan for national teams and youth teams in the last 6 months of 2025 and the plan to participate in the 33rd SEA Games and the 3rd Asian Youth Games .
Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet chaired the meeting.
Speaking at the meeting, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet stated that on July 1, 2025, the merged provinces will officially come into operation, according to the Resolution of the National Assembly . After the merger, Vietnam will have 34 provinces and cities (of which 19 provinces and 4 cities were formed from the merger, and 11 provinces and cities remain the same). This means that a number of national high-performance sports tournaments in the last 6 months of the year will have to adjust the scale of organization to suit practical conditions.
Faced with that reality, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet requested the Department of High Performance Sports to proactively review all tournaments in each sport that had been previously planned (the operational plan of the Sports and Physical Training sector issued from the beginning of 2025) to calculate and coordinate the funding source for organizing the tournaments in a reasonable manner in accordance with state regulations.
Regarding the training of young athletes, the Director said: Each department needs to have a more thorough and careful calculation in the selection of young athletes to send for international training or the selection of talented and promising young athletes to promote to the national team. For the development of Vietnamese Sports, at this time, the Vietnamese Sports Industry encourages departments to boldly come up with new, good and effective ideas and methods. Through practice, it has been shown that localities and industries are also very willing to accompany the Sports Industry in investing in training athlete resources. However, the investment of funds must achieve real efficiency.
"Let's focus on selecting a group of excellent young athletes to focus on investing in the core, key areas from training (good domestic coaches, inviting highly qualified foreign experts, standard training equipment, the best treatment and nutrition...) to training and competing abroad, in order to realize the goal of being able to compete for medals at the ASIAD and Olympic arenas. In particular, at each training center - where the youth teams are managed, directly the coaches of each team of each sport must be serious, exemplary and tighten the implementation of athlete management work, only then can the investment in youth training achieve the desired results'', Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet emphasized.
Overview of the working session
Agreeing with this view, Deputy Director Nguyen Hong Minh said: In the coming time, the general context of the country will change a lot, so all high-performance sports activities will certainly need timely adjustments. To serve the long-term goals set by the industry, focusing on and prioritizing the training of young athletes is inevitable and necessary.
Regarding the preparation of athletes, the list of events and sending athletes to participate in the 2 events of SEA Games 33 and the 3rd Asian Youth Games, Director Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet suggested that the Department of High Performance Sports continue to review, calculate and carefully consider the sports that are sent to the socialized source. Regarding the policy, the leaders of the Department support but the sports selected to represent Vietnamese Sports must ensure the element of peak sports, limit and consider choosing sports that are more entertainment-oriented.
