Mr. Thinh appeared in front of the camera with a simple demeanor, holding a bunch of Luc Ngan lychees in his hand, chatting animatedly like a professional online seller. "What moved me the most was not the number 54 tons, but the thank-you calls from people and the sharing of seeing provincial leaders selling goods at the online market for the first time," he said.
This special livestream took place on an e-commerce platform within the framework of Luc Ngan Lychee Week - part of the province's digital transformation plan. However, it was unprecedented for a provincial leader to appear directly in front of the camera, acting as a real salesperson. Mr. Thinh described this as a "spontaneous action, but stemming from the spirit of innovation and creativity in action".
"I joined livestreaming because I believe it really benefits lychee growers. I want to encourage farmers to tell their own stories about their products, and encourage young people to boldly step into the global market," he shared.
Although he is in charge of this field, Mr. Thinh admitted that this was his first time livestreaming, and that "his experience was almost zero". Before the broadcast, he had not had time to learn anything, only skimmed through a few online sales sessions and "tried buying a few orders" to observe. He did not have much time to prepare, nor did he learn how to "close deals" like professional streamers.
The provincial vice chairman only took a few minutes each session to go on air, encourage young people and spread the message about the quality of local agricultural products. "I don't have online sales skills, but I believe in Luc Ngan lychee and want to spread that belief to consumers," he said.
The results far exceeded expectations. Within 6 hours, more than 54 tons of lychees were sold out. The ripple effect was also strong. Thousands of positive comments flooded social networks, orders continuously poured in from Hanoi , Ho Chi Minh City, and even from the US, Australia, and Japan. Many people expressed their emotions, called to thank and share their joy when seeing the leader "step out of the meeting room, directly standing on the side of the people".
"When leaders accompany, consumers can also put their trust not only in product quality, but also in the kindness of the seller," Mr. Thinh shared.
The Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Bac Ninh province hopes that this model will spread, so that leaders of other localities are also ready to join in because "people everywhere need to be accompanied", and "sometimes just one livestream is enough to create change".
Mr. Thinh said he has spent many years following the development of e-commerce and was deeply impressed by the model of Yiwu village (China) - where farmers can sell millions of dollars just by livestreaming, combining AI to tell product stories in many languages. "If people can do it, why can't Vietnamese farmers?", he wondered.
As the person directly in charge of the province's e-commerce and agricultural product consumption, he not only observed but also took action. In May 2025, he invited technology experts and influential individuals to provide free training to Luc Ngan farmers - from livestreaming skills, packaging design, to professional filming techniques.
Bac Ninh province is also implementing a digital skills training program for farmers, while promoting the establishment of agricultural product sales teams, KOL and KOC clubs; coordinating with logistics and technology enterprises to ensure stable output.
Following the success of the first broadcast, the province continues to build a comprehensive support plan to bring farmers into the digital environment: from opening skills training courses, establishing a young sales team, to connecting with logistics and technology units.
Mr. Thinh affirmed that technology is a tool, but without proactive people, it will not go anywhere. When leaders roll up their sleeves, Vietnamese agricultural products "can go very far".
"If you need me, I'm ready to livestream again," he said.
