Vietnam is the first Asian country to reach a trade agreement with the US.

The phone call between General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam To Lam and US President Donald Trump that took place last night became the main topic on many major Japanese newspapers published today, July 3.

Asahi Shinbun, one of Japan's largest newspapers, published an article today (July 3) titled "US and Vietnam reach agreement on tariff negotiations", stating that during the summit phone call between Vietnam's top leader - General Secretary To Lam and US President Donald Trump, the two sides reached an agreement on US tariffs.

Vietnam is the first Asian country to reach a trade agreement with the US.

Many Japanese TV stations reported heavily on the Vietnam-US summit.

Asahi also reported that immediately after the phone call, President Trump posted an article on his personal social networking site, stating that he had signed a trade agreement with Vietnam and that the two sides agreed to reduce tariffs for each other. According to Asahi, Vietnam is the second country in the world , after the UK, and the first country in Asia to reach a trade agreement with the US.

Besides, other Japanese press agencies such as Jiji Press, Sankei newspaper, Home Hiroshima TV, ANN, Nihon Television... also published prominently about the Vietnam - US summit and the positive results of this phone call.

Japanese public opinion believes that this is the result of a wise and effective negotiation strategy and tactic, and is proof of Vietnam's ever-increasing position in US policy in particular, and in the international arena in general.
