On June 24, a representative of Hoan My Da Lat Hospital said that they had just successfully performed surgery on two children with congenital penile retraction (buried penis) deformities, T. (8 years old) and Q. (13 years old), both living in Da Lat City.
According to the parents, both children were diagnosed with this defect at birth, but treatment was difficult. The family took their children to many places for examination but could not find a suitable solution.
While waiting for treatment, the two children above had multiple urinary tract infections.
At Hoan My Da Lat Hospital, doctors consulted with male specialists and decided to perform surgery to avoid serious health and psychological effects in the future for the children. Each surgery took about 60 minutes and was considered successful.
Doctor Cao Xuan Thanh from the surgery department of Hoan My Da Lat Hospital said that the two children had a condition where the penis shaft was covered by a layer of skin and fat in the pubic area, making the genitals not visible outside.
He said this malformation does not threaten the patient's life, but if intervention is delayed, it will cause serious problems such as abnormal penile structure development, difficulty in personal hygiene, urinary tract infections, and greatly affect the child's psychology.
Doctor Thanh recommends that parents pay attention to monitor and detect early abnormalities in their children's genitals and proactively take their children to medical facilities for timely treatment.
