Top trending after 1 day
Part of the exam Phuong My Chi with song Vanity in the quarter-finals Sing! Asia quickly create a strong viral effect on social networks.
After just one day of broadcasting, the performance reached the top 1 trending YouTube Vietnam in the music category, earning 3.6 million views on this platform, more than 5.4 million views on Facebook and continuing to increase rapidly. Notably, the video was also in the top 9 most viewed content in the world on YouTube on June 28.
With the smooth combination of traditional instruments such as the erhu and traditional drums, along with a powerful voice, many of which reached the highest range of sound, Phuong My Chi made a strong impression on the judges and international audiences.
As a result, she received 15/21 votes, surpassing her strong competitor, singer Hoang Linh from China, and won the title of "king of stations" - a title given to the contestant who wins absolutely at every stop in the competition.
This victory also gave the Vietnamese representative the right to choose his opponent for the second consecutive round. Behind the stage, the Gen Z singer could not hold back her tears and burst into tears when she received congratulations from the judges and contestants.
Risky gamble
After the competition, the name Phuong My Chi suddenly appeared frequently on Weibo, China's largest social network. The audience from other countries called her "the Vietnamese girl with the dolphin voice", emphasizing her rare ability to sing in high ranges, surprising even diva Truong Luong Dinh, who is known as the "Queen of the dolphin voice". Many comments said that judge Truong "probably did not expect that one day she would hear another contestant sing with a dolphin voice while she was sitting on the judge's chair".
Song Vanity inspired by The Tale of Kieu - A famous work in Vietnamese literature, arranged by producer group DTAP, expressing the spirit of intersection between contemporary music and national cultural identity.
Sharing about the preparation process, the DTAP group admitted that this was a risky gamble: “We don’t know why we were so bold, pushing the song higher, more difficult, and then deciding to change the key at the end.” The group said that the filming time was 2am, outside of My Chi’s normal daily schedule, making the whole crew worried about whether she had enough energy and could maintain the necessary vocal range.
“However, Phuong My Chi did it, not only technically perfect but also full of emotion, sophistication and discipline. Listening to Chi sing, I got goosebumps and was proud that Vietnam has such a strong representative in the international arena,” said the DTAP group.
Phuong My Chi herself was also touched when receiving the love of international audiences. She posted her thanks on Weibo. “I am grateful, proud and overwhelmed when my performance was received. Every time I perform, Vanity is a time for me to relive the story and emotions. Today's result is a reward for my constant efforts, as well as a thank you to those who have always believed in and accompanied me," the singer shared.
“I feel so lucky to still have the opportunity to bring Vietnamese music and culture to the world through the Sing! Asia stage,” she added.
