People's Artist Minh Vuong performs at Lang Le - Bau Co historical site (Tan Nhut commune, Ho Chi Minh City)
On the evening of September 2, at the Lang Le – Bau Co historical site (Tan Nhut commune, Ho Chi Minh City), an art program was held to celebrate the August Revolution and National Day September 2 in a solemn and emotional atmosphere. Despite the pouring rain, hundreds of spectators still lingered, their raincoats soaked, to wait for the special singer – People’s Artist Minh Vuong.
He is an artist who has been associated with reformed opera for more than half a century and has twice won the Mai Vang award voted by readers of Nguoi Lao Dong newspaper.
Minh Vuong – loves revolutionary folk songs
The moment People's Artist Minh Vuong sang the vọng cổ song "Thieng linh K9" (composed by Dang Minh) was warmly cheered by the audience. The whole space seemed to quiet down and his warm, soulful voice resounded amidst the white rain, bringing listeners back to the heroic history of the nation.
Many audiences were moved to tears when they saw the 78-year-old artist still standing firmly on the makeshift stage, his sleeves soaked with rain but each song still resounding, strong and full of power.
He confided: "The Lang Le Bau Co relic site is associated with the resistance war against the French invasion in 1948 with major battles that went down in history. The Lang Le Bau Co relic site was recognized as a city-level historical relic in 2003. I am very honored to come here to perform on Independence Day and even more proud because I am someone who likes to sing vọng cổ songs written about the revolutionary tradition and patriotism of the army and people in the two great resistance wars to defend our nation."
When the rain was heavy, People's Artist Minh Vuong was given an umbrella by a young person so he could continue performing.
Minh Vuong is loved by the audience
The enthusiastic cheers and thunderous applause in the rain said it all: the love the public has for People's Artist Minh Vuong because of his talent, personality and artistic spirit, always devoted to the audience and the Fatherland.
Sharing after the performance, People's Artist Minh Vuong emotionally said: "Being able to sing on the nation's important holiday, I always feel happy and proud. As an artist of an independent and self-reliant country, I am even more aware of my responsibility to preserve and spread national art. The sound of vọng cổ is not only music , but also the voice of the people, the aspiration for a proud and steadfast Vietnam."
Meritorious Artist Phuong Hang and People's Artist Minh Vuong
Composer Dang Minh - author of the ancient song "Thien linh K9" - could not hide his emotions when witnessing People's Artist Minh Vuong perform his work on a historic rainy night: "I wrote "Thien linh K9" with all my respect for President Ho Chi Minh and the soldiers who sacrificed for the Fatherland. When I heard People's Artist Minh Vuong sing this song, I felt each word was raised to a new level, both profound and heroic. The image of him standing in the rain but still singing strongly made me believe that: Cai luong still has a miraculous power to move, and the sacred values of the nation will forever resonate in the hearts of the audience".
Minh Vuong will sing about the Lang Le - Bau Co relic site.
The rainy night in Lang Le – Bau Co brought pride to the artists participating in the art program, because despite the heavy rain, the audience still stood in the rain to watch. This proves the immortal vitality of Cai Luong and the steadfast heart of the artists who are devoted to the people.
Meritorious Artist Phuong Hang also stood under an umbrella singing in the rain to serve the audience.
"Previously, the Lang Le Bau Co relic site was a field of overgrown reeds. On April 15, 1948, the French colonialists sent 3,000 soldiers and many modern weapons to simultaneously attack the Lang Le Bau Co area to destroy the Vuon Thom base.
At that time, the revolutionary armed forces in Lang Le - Bau had small forces and rudimentary weapons, but received help from local people and the advantage of terrain" - writer Dang Minh recounted.
The Lang Le Bau Co relic site in Ho Chi Minh City has great historical significance for the people of Saigon - Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general. In the face of hatred for French colonialism, the army and people of Lang Le Bau Co had a resounding historical war and had great significance opening the way for our side and the enemy. After the Dong Khoi movement in 1960, this place was also the logistics and springboard for the armed forces to liberate Long An - Saigon - Gia Dinh.
To commemorate the sacrifice of our compatriots and soldiers, in 1988, Binh Chanh district (old) built a historical project in Lang Le Bau Co land with an area of 1000m2.
