Novak Djokovic has been out of action since the 2023 US Open, but former player Alex Corretja said the Serbian star is still a top contender at the Paris Masters and ATP Finals.

Former Spanish tennis player, who has reached the Roland Garros final twice, Corretja commented on Djokovic: "I think Djokovic is a master of power distribution because he knows exactly what he needs to do at each moment.

Djokovic knows his body, knows how to play, and he knows exactly when his peak performance is. I think Djokovic does that very well, but at the same time it's very difficult because it's not easy to not play for a month and a half and then come out and step on the court.

You have to accept that the first few games are difficult. You might not feel good because the other opponents, they have played a lot and it's completely different when you're at home even if you're training."

After winning the 2023 US Open on September 11, Djokovic has not played and has missed a series of major tournaments such as the China Open, Shanghai Masters and Basel Open. The Serbian will return to the Paris Masters (France, from October 29 to November 5) and the ATP Finals (Italy, from November 12 to November 19).

Corretja believes Djokovic is the top candidate for the tournaments at the end of this year: "I think Djokovic will probably be one of the top candidates, if not the strongest candidate, for the Paris Masters and ATP Finals. Djokovic has been playing so well all season that he is almost unbeatable."

In another development, speaking to a Spanish newspaper on October 21, Rafael Nadal shared his surprise about Djokovic's success: "I predicted that Djokovic would win the Grand Slam this year, but I didn't imagine that he would win it three times. I think the younger generation is very strong.

Carlos Alcaraz had a great chance to stop Djokovic winning his third Roland Garros title, but unfortunately he had an injury problem. Then he made up for it with a historic title at Wimbledon and I'm happy for that. Overall, what happened this season was reasonable."
