More than 60% of the area has been sown.
In the last winter-spring crop, although rice prices decreased compared to the same period last year, they were still generally high, achieving relatively stable profits. Thanks to that, farmers are quite enthusiastic about entering the 2025 summer-autumn rice crop. Mr. Nguyen Van Chien in Hoa Thanh commune (Dong Hoa town) said: After the harvest, I immediately started cleaning the fields, preparing the soil and preparing rice seeds for sowing. Because the summer-autumn crop falls during the peak hot months, I always pay attention to reinforcing the embankments to avoid water loss from the fields, prepare the soil carefully, and proactively prevent golden apple snails and weeds.
Le Thi Phan in Hoa Hoi commune (Phu Hoa district) is renting a tractor for the second time, harrowing to prepare for the new crop. She said: This field is located at the head of the North main canal, the water comes in first, so after harvesting the winter-spring rice, people start to carefully prepare for the summer-autumn crop, especially the land preparation and seed selection. This season, I continue to buy certified BDR57 seeds to sow in rows and thinly for my family's 6 sao of rice. Because it is sunny, according to experience, after plowing, I plow the land and sow immediately so that the rice seeds are stuck in the mud; if I harrow and harrow in the morning and sow in the afternoon, the seeds will dry out on the field surface...
According to the plan, in the 2025 summer-autumn crop, the whole province will sow 24,500 hectares of rice; the main rice varieties: DV108, Dai Thom 8, BDR27, PY10 and additional varieties: MT10, BDB6, CH133, PY8... Up to now, farmers have sown nearly 14,000 hectares, concentrated in the districts of Tay Hoa, Phu Hoa, Tuy An, Dong Xuan, and Dong Hoa town.
Similarly, in the fields of An Cu, An Dinh, An Nghiep communes (Tuy An district), in recent days, farmers have also urgently sowed rice in accordance with the district's general crop schedule. To date, farmers have completed sowing about 45% of the area. Mr. Tran Tan Khoa, Director of An Nghiep Agricultural Cooperative, said: This crop, the cooperative has put into production 240 hectares of rice varieties including: DV108, Dai Thom 8, Bac Thinh, TBR97, MT10. Currently, 170 hectares have been concentrated on sowing, expected to be completed by June 15.
According to Mr. Khoa, to reduce production costs in the summer-autumn crop, in addition to doing well the steps of land preparation, water management in the fields to limit weeds and the harmful development of rats, snails and other pests, the cooperative is interested in guiding farmers in choosing varieties so that the rice plants are healthy, have good resistance to pests and adverse weather conditions. Thereby helping to reduce costs in caring for and weeding rice and limit the spraying of pesticides. In addition, the cooperative also reminds farmers to apply balanced fertilizer according to the growth needs of the rice plants to save money on fertilizer.
To have a successful harvest
To help farmers produce good summer-autumn rice, the provincial Department of Agriculture and localities in the area have been actively implementing many synchronous solutions to help farmers effectively respond to unfavorable production conditions and make efforts to minimize costs.
According to Mr. Truong Quang Tuong, Deputy Head of the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Livestock, for the 2025 summer-autumn crop to be successful, in addition to ensuring irrigation water for production, localities need to pay attention to supporting and guiding farmers to promote mechanization, apply scientific and technical advances in production through training sessions, field seminars at the beginning of the season and specific models to reduce production costs, improve productivity, quality and product prices.
"People need to pay attention to ensuring the isolation period between two rice crops, properly performing the steps of land preparation, straw treatment and destroying pests in the fields; proactively applying IPM rice production and cultivation according to the IPHM program, "three reductions, three increases", "one must, five reductions" and smart rice cultivation adapting to climate change. In addition, people need to sow seeds simultaneously, concentrating on each area and field to easily manage pests and diseases, convenient for rice care and harvesting...", Mr. Tuong said.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Huyen Tran, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Tay Hoa district informed: In the summer-autumn crop of 2025, the whole district will put into production more than 6,500 hectares. In the face of the weather and potential outbreaks of harmful organisms affecting production, the district has directed relevant units and People's Committees of communes and towns to prepare well for seeds, land preparation, use of organic fertilizers and simultaneously organize training courses to impart knowledge about IPHM to help farmers acquire many technical advances applied in production, reduce input costs, and increase profits in rice cultivation.
Understanding the benefits of IPHM rice cultivation, after attending the training, Mr. Nguyen Hai in Hoa My Dong commune (Tay Hoa district) applied it to his field. Mr. Hai said: This crop, I have changed the sowing density to 6-7 kg/sao, a decrease of 4-5 kg/sao compared to before; at the same time, I will increase organic fertilizer application to help the soil become healthy and the rice become healthy. Hopefully, the rice fields that learn to apply IPHM will grow and develop well, be resistant to pests and lodging, and the yield will be higher than traditional farming.
