Floating with artist Bui Chat

On the afternoon of July 14, at Gallery No. 22 Pham Cu Luong, Tan Son Hoa Ward, Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Ward 2, Tan Binh District), artist Bui Chat opened the painting exhibition "Dang Troi", inspired by his new poetry collection "Where are we drifting to?" recently published by Da Nang Publishing House.

Although he has held more than 10 art exhibitions, for the first time and perhaps the only time, Bui Chat has given specific names to each work in the exhibition Dang Troi . "The names of the paintings are all taken from the names of the poems in the collection Where are we drifting to? as a souvenir, a connection and exchange of different fields within the same subject," the artist revealed.

In the exhibition Dang troi , Bui Chat still pursues an abstract style of painting that is poetic and symbolic. According to curator Phan Trong Van: "If Chat's previous paintings tend to be ethereal, drifting, and sometimes seem to dissolve between words and images, the Dang troi series of paintings shows a different movement: more intense, clearer, with a more drastic push and pull of color... The color contrast is higher, the "color pushes" are bolder, and especially the frequency amplitude - that is, the range of emotional movements of each color - also becomes wider and deeper. This is not only a visual maturity, but also suggests a "new language" in Bui Chat's abstract journey. His paintings no longer "float" aimlessly, but rather float with gravity, float with memories, with life materials that have matured in contemplation".

According to Bui Chat's humorous yet serious self-reflection, his paintings in this exhibition "seem more savory". Salty in color. Salty in mood. And the saltiness of life seems to permeate each layer of color, each stroke on each "brainchild" that he takes great care of.

The exhibition Floating , consisting of 20 oil paintings and mixed media, runs until July 24.
