Pink cards

How many times in a person’s life does he receive a wedding invitation? Too many, too many to remember. When he was young, he attended the weddings of his siblings and relatives. When he grew up and started working, he attended the weddings of his friends and colleagues. When he was middle-aged, he attended the weddings of his friends’, colleagues’, and neighbors’ children… In our group of friends, there was one person that everyone teased him about being absent-minded, because he kept everything. In his room, which was as messy as a warehouse, there was a huge box of old TVs, filled with all the wedding invitations he had received. Wow, there were so many, some of them were from decades ago, the kind sold in grocery stores… Every time we went to a wedding, we would bring this up to laugh.

Regarding the season for sending invitations, the customs of the North and the South are also slightly different. In the North, the wedding season is after the seventh lunar month until near Tet, people usually do not get married in January. In the South, this month is the main wedding season, which is why there is the song "Ra Gieng anh cuoi em" by Lu Nhat Vu and Thien Kieu. The only thing is that both regions avoid getting married in the seventh lunar month because it is the month of Ngau, separation. That was a story of the past, but now weddings are held all year round. The fortune tellers also know how to choose the wishes of the host, because they see that the good days are always on Saturday and Sunday so that everyone can conveniently attend.

The wedding day is the most important day in a person's life, so receiving a pink invitation is always a very happy feeling, because you understand the feelings of the inviter for you on their happy day. Me too, every time I receive an invitation, I have the same feeling. But one time, receiving an invitation, just from a familiar family, I felt an indescribable feeling. That's because I have a very special attachment to this family. When I first started working, I worked in an administrative agency. During the subsidy period, every agency reserved one or two offices for single people to stay temporarily. In front of the agency gate, there was a small cigarette cabinet owned by a hard-working woman who worked until late at night. We often went to buy cigarettes and all sorts of things from her, if we didn't have money, we would pay at the beginning of the following month. She had a little daughter, who sat waiting for her mother to sell, and in the evening, she brought her books to the foot of a street lamp to study, many times she fell asleep sitting there... God loves the children of poor families. Although she struggled to study on the sidewalk like that, she studied very well. After a while, when I had a chance to pass by the old office, I met her again and learned that she had gone to university. When she graduated, she came to my house with red eyes to ask me to find a job for her. She graduated with a good degree, but did not know where to apply for a job, and wherever she applied, she said she would wait. Through our friendship, I introduced her to a company. She worked hard and studied, and a few years later she got a master's degree and was promoted to head of the department. Every year, on the afternoon of the 29th of Tet, she brought some gifts from her hometown to visit my family. In the first few years, my whole family jokingly asked her when she would get married, but in the following years, we tactfully did not mention this matter, secretly hoping that the talented and obedient girl would soon have good news. Then a few days ago, the mother and daughter came to my house to deliver a pink invitation card. The little girl sat still shyly, while her mother's happiness overflowed uncontrollably, talking about all sorts of things about the wedding... Receiving the invitation card made her feel emotional, because the ending of the story about the little girl studying under the streetlight could not have been better.

Life is like a river flowing quietly to the sea. Pink cards keep flying away. Behind each card is a love story, a radiant couple looking forward to a new life together.
