Nguyen Binh Khiem Primary, Secondary and High School - Cau Giay; Nguyen Binh Khiem Secondary School - Rubik ( Hanoi ) announced that they will not accept congratulatory flowers on the opening day of the school year. The schools said that if parents and partners have any wishes, please convert them into gifts/cash to join the school in giving encouraging gifts at the beginning of the new school year to students.
Khai Minh Primary School (HCMC) also informed parents and partners that they will not accept flowers to congratulate the opening ceremony. If partners and parents are kind, they can donate to the scholarship fund to take care of disadvantaged children.
In a notice sent to partners, parents and donors, Duong Van Thi High School (HCMC) said it would not accept flowers at the opening ceremony of the new school year and would like to change them to scholarships for students in difficult circumstances.
“These scholarships will be awarded to students at the opening ceremony as a gift to encourage their spirit of overcoming difficulties, nurturing their dreams and adding motivation to study. Each scholarship, whether big or small, is a sharing and love, contributing to spreading humanistic values, accompanying the school on the journey of nurturing knowledge,” wrote Principal Nguyen Thi Thanh Truc in the letter.
Mr. Truong Van Ho, Principal of Vo Truong Toan Secondary School (HCMC) also sent an open letter to parents and partners about changing the form of receiving flowers on the opening day of the new school year. He said that in recent years, the school has received a lot of love expressed through beautiful flower baskets on the opening day. This is a valuable source of spiritual encouragement.
However, to make this activity more meaningful and practical, he suggested that each bouquet of flowers could become a set of textbooks, a new school bag, a scholarship, a health insurance card or constructions and items serving entertainment and sports for students at the school.
"The school hopes to continue to receive your companionship, sharing and support, to together build a happy, humane and meaningful educational environment," the principal wrote.
Many schools do not accept flowers on opening day, hoping to exchange them for gifts for students
The opening ceremony of the new school year will take place from 8:00 to 9:30 on September 5th, live at the National Convention Center (Hanoi), broadcast live on VTV1 channel of Vietnam Television and connected online to all educational institutions, from kindergarten to university (public and non-public) across the country.
In the solemn atmosphere of the ceremony, delegates and guests will review the 80-year tradition of the education sector, listen to the speech of the Minister of Education and Training, and speeches by representatives of outstanding students. Especially, the speeches and drum beats to open the new school year by leaders of the Party and State.
In previous years, universities often took the initiative to organize opening ceremonies according to their own time frames. However, this year, all educational institutions from kindergarten to university, both public and private, will organize simultaneously on September 5.
The 2025-2026 school year is also the first year the country operates under a two-level government model, in which kindergartens, primary schools, and secondary schools are under the direct management of the commune level. This school year, the education sector will also focus on implementing the 2018 general education program in conjunction with organizing two-session teaching/day.
According to the Ministry of Education and Training, the celebration aims to affirm the role, position and glorious historical tradition of the education sector.
