VNeID has displayed information on people's new residential addresses and hometowns after the whole country officially switched to a two-level local government model and merged 34 provincial-level administrative units from July 1.

Updating new address

As early as June 30, after the nationwide ceremony of announcing resolutions and decisions on administrative unit mergers, many people when accessing the VNeID application saw their residence and hometown information updated. "The information is updated very quickly, hopefully the change of administrative units towards a more streamlined direction will bring convenience to the people" - Mr. TQT (residing in Gia Lai province) said.

However, some people also reported that VNeID has not updated information or has not updated it completely - for example, the information of the new province or city is correct but not the correct commune or ward. "It is unclear whether the system will gradually update completely and accurately or people need to go to new administrative units or police agencies to get it edited? Will related procedures be involved in errors while waiting for accurate information to be updated on VNeID?" - Ms. HT (living in Ho Chi Minh City) wondered.

In addition, in some cases, when accessing VNeID, you receive the message "Connection to the system failed", "Request cannot be executed" or "System is under maintenance". Some people cannot recover their password because the system stops in the "loading" state.

Regarding this issue, Colonel Vu Van Tan, Director of the Department of Administrative Police for Social Order - Ministry of Public Security , said that after switching to a 2-level local government model, some cases of information on VNeID need to be adjusted and updated accordingly. "The local police and cadres are urgently reviewing and updating data for the people. This will take more time to complete, people can rest assured to wait for the information to be adjusted accurately" - Mr. Tan added.

Ride-hailing app runs 2 data in parallel

Not only electronic identification applications, some service applications used by many customers such as ride-hailing, delivery, online shopping... will also have certain changes and updates in terms of address and map.

Be Group representative said that the company has proactively prepared an operating plan for the administrative unit merger early. Currently, on the Be application, the displayed address still follows the old data to maintain familiarity for users during the transition period. In the next phase, Be will have an operating plan to run the old and new address systems in parallel for all 34 provinces and cities to ensure both accuracy and no service interruption.

Also according to Be Group, thanks to owning beMap - a map and positioning platform developed by 100% Vietnamese staff at Be, Be can quickly update changes in location and routes; optimize navigation algorithms according to user behavior and synchronize the entire system proactively, without depending on third-party map platforms.

"We will send notifications and specific instructions to driver partners, housekeeping service partners and customers. The update and conversion will be done automatically, without requiring manual operation from users" - Be Group informed.

Several other ride-hailing companies and shopping apps such as Grab, Shopee, Lazada, TikTok Shop... said they would have solutions to ensure customer experience. According to records, most apps still display the old address.

Mr. Bui Thanh Binh, Director of BMZ Joint Stock Company, said that most service applications integrate Google maps, so updating may take a long time. In the initial stage, it is still advisable to run old and new data in parallel to avoid confusion when users experience the service.

Currently, Google has not made any official announcement regarding any changes related to address updates after the merger of administrative units in Vietnam.

According to Colonel Vu Van Tan, users need to update the latest version of the VNeID application on the App Store or Google Play to accurately look up new address and hometown information. After updating, you can follow these steps: Log in to the VNeID application, select the document wallet, select view detailed information, enter the password to unlock. In addition, you can look up by logging into VNeID, selecting the citizen identification card, entering the password to unlock, selecting the electronic identification. Here you can see the data fields that have been updated according to the new administrative boundaries including: place of birth, place of birth registration, hometown, permanent residence, temporary residence, current residence.
