Rio Ngumoha is set to sign his first professional contract with Liverpool. |
This salary is far less than the £300,000/week that Mohamed Salah or Florian Wirtz (£200,000/week) receive at Liverpool. However, the new professional contract promises a significant increase in income for the 16-year-old player.
The Athletic reports that Ngumoha could see his current earnings increase by more than 20 times in his first professional contract with Liverpool, to £25,000 a week. This is a worthy reward for Ngumoha thanks to his impressive performances in the first team in recent times.
This salary is even higher than the 20,000/week Kobbie Mainoo is receiving at Manchester United. Mainoo is 4 years older than Ngumoha and debuted in the Manchester United first team 2 years earlier than his junior.
Ngumoha will officially sign a professional contract on his 17th birthday (August 29). |
Ngumoha will officially sign a professional contract on his 17th birthday (August 29). Under English law, clubs are not allowed to sign professional contracts until players turn 17, and must have written consent from a parent or legal guardian.
Ngumoha has been in the spotlight this season, making history in Liverpool's 3-2 win over Newcastle in the second round of the Premier League. In the 10th minute of injury time of the second half, Ngumoha - who had just made his Premier League debut - scored with a dangerous curling effort that left goalkeeper Nick Pope looking on.
With this goal, Ngumoha became the fourth youngest player to score in Premier League history, behind only James Vaughan, James Milner and Wayne Rooney. Ngumoha also became the second youngest player in the Premier League to score a match-winning goal, also behind Rooney.
