Open another bottom spillway gate of Hoa Binh hydroelectric reservoir

From 8:00 p.m. today, August 13, Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant will operate two bottom spillway gates at the same time.

Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant opens water discharge gates

On the afternoon of August 13, the Minister of Agriculture and Environment continued to issue an official dispatch directing the Director of Hoa Binh Hydropower Company to open another bottom spillway gate of Hoa Binh Hydropower Reservoir at 8:00 p.m. the same day, to regulate the water level upstream and ensure the safety of the project in the face of possible floods in the coming time.

In the dispatch, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment said that at 8:00 a.m. on the same day, August 13, the water level in the upstream of Hoa Binh Lake still reached 104.78m (at the time when 1 bottom spillway gate was maintained since the evening of August 12), the water flow to the lake was 5,250 ^m3 /second, while the total flow discharged downstream through 1 bottom spillway gate and generators was 3,925 ^m3 /second.

The decision to open an additional bottom spillway was made by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment according to the inter-reservoir operation process in the Red River basin approved by the Prime Minister and adjusted in 2025.

Previously, at 8:00 p.m. on August 12, Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant opened 1 bottom spillway gate. Thus, after 8:00 p.m. tonight, Hoa Binh Hydropower Plant will open 2 bottom spillway gates at the same time.
